Technically, there is. She says that you saved a "GTVA capital ship." :D

Isn't that a glitch?  I thought the thing was supposed to destroy itself regardless even if you somehow managed to kill every single baddie in the area before it kills the Oberon.

Re: I just save the Oberon
No, IIRC the Oberon jumps out with the Aquitane.

Actually, one of the only ways to save the Oberon (unless you're a badass pilot or something who can kill all the inbound Shivans before they unleash enough missiles to kill the Oberon) is to Shift~I it.

I dunno, he could have done it the hard way, because I was able to save the Oberon without cheats as well. (though it was only once and one HUGE fluke)

Is this the one where you "tested" the Pegasus fighters by holding them at bay?  If so, I might have saved it once.   I don't remember really, but being an ultra-perfectionist at this game, I can't really imagine myself giving up and moving ahead without saving it.  Unless it really does self-destruct.  I dunno.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I saved it once as well, I think the one that cannot be saved is the NTF Frigate in the Nebula, can't remember its name offhand.

I've saved the Oberon twice by accident, so I know it's not just a fluke. I just wish :v: had allowed us to, when we hit Delta Wing enough, disable the damned things. It's hardly an accurate simulation if the attackers have nothing to fear from the defenders.

<Aesaar> literary criticism is vladimir putin

<MageKing17> "There's probably a reason the code is the way it is" is a very dangerous line of thought. :P
<MageKing17> Because the "reason" often turns out to be "nobody noticed it was wrong".
(the very next day)
<MageKing17> this ****ing code did it to me again
<MageKing17> "That doesn't really make sense to me, but I'll assume it was being done for a reason."
<MageKing17> **** ME
<MageKing17> THE REASON IS PEOPLE ARE STUPID
<MageKing17> ESPECIALLY ME

<MageKing17> God damn, I do not understand how this is breaking.
<MageKing17> Everything points to "this should work fine", and yet it's clearly not working.
<MjnMixael> 2 hours later... "God damn, how did this ever work at all?!"
(...)
<MageKing17> so
<MageKing17> more than two hours
<MageKing17> but once again we have reached the inevitable conclusion
<MageKing17> How did this code ever work in the first place!?

<@The_E> Welcome to OpenGL, where standards compliance is optional, and error reporting inconsistent

<MageKing17> It was all working perfectly until I actually tried it on an actual mission.

<IronWorks> I am useful for FSO stuff again. This is a red-letter day!

<MageKing17> TIL the entire homing code is held up by shoestrings and duct tape, basically.

Yeah, you can't save the Trinity no matter what. When I first played through FS2 and got to that mission, I kept restarting the mission because the Trinity got destroyed. Then I got the brilliant idea to Shift~I it. It worked, but the mission just hung there, with nothing happening. I had the bastard on x8 time compression, but nothing happened, so I ~+K'd it, jumped out, and moved on.

Yeah...I normally ignore the Oberon. The shivans will target it first which gives you a 30 second buffer to regroup while they target and fire.
It's kinda funny, watching about 8 cyclops warhead body-slam a decomissioned Fenris.

Props, if you didnt ~shift+I it...

Without this becoming true they would have a tendency to not begin attacking the Aquitaine (there is no ai-chase given, just some initials)

If you've ever seen it happen, theres just a cloud of bombs at point blank. I'm tempted to side with the Shift-I.
