Author Topic: Pilots not saving...  (Read 1565 times)

Hey, I recently discovered the awesomeness that is Freespace and ive been playing the FS2 campaign but unfortunately my pilots stats and accomplishments arent saving when I leave the current mission to go to the hanger.

So, if I ever leave the current mission I have to start the whole game over again. Right now im not too upset cause i was only like 8 or so missions in (I just finished a hard as hell mission and got transfered to the Suicide Kings) and the game is fun enough that I dont mind replaying the missions.

But still, Id like to be able to save my progress some time. How come it isnt saving? Do I have to save myself? How do I do this? Is it maybe an issue with Freespace open?

Also, should I play the original freespace campaign before FS2?

You don't have to play the original FS Campaign before you play the FS2 campaign, but it helps. Get the Freespace Port for that if you don't have the original Freespace:

What version of the SCP are you using?

I owned Freespace 2 for five years before I ever played FS1. It's not at all necessary. Though still quite worth doing because the original FS1 campaign rivals FS2 in terms of quality. And if you play the SCP port it's even better.

Im playing through the original campaign first i think, since it should be just as fun. How about the other official campaigns for FS1 are they any good?

But to the main issue, how do I go about saving so I dont have to replay missions every time...I dont know what SCP is but my current version of Freespace Open is 3_5_6.

Basically what happens is, if I click to continue a campaign it just brings me to the very first mission. Further more if I load a pilot I used for campaigns and look at his career stats, they are blank.

I figured it would save after every mission but it doesnt, do I have to save manually?

have you tried creating a new pilot?
Would you like to have a piece of duct tape shoved up your arse? - 'Duct Tape man', Derelict.

"You never know what your going to find until you take a look" - Snipes, Fs2.

SCP = Source Code Project = Freespace Open. :) And your copy of FSO is woefully out of date. I'm not sure if that build was around the time they did it, but old builds save pilots differently than new ones, which could be causing your problem. The game does save automatically.

There aren't any other "official" campaigns besides the Silent Threat campaign for FS1, which is really pretty bad. The FS Port will be fixing that though, or so I've heard :)

If you don't already have the full FS Open installed (I doubt you do, and if you do, it's probably out of date), go here:

Read through that.

Or, if you'd prefer, here's my complete 10-step Freespace Open install tutorial that will take you from not having FS2 at all to having a complete FSO install: http://www.game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2858

Cheers :)

NOTE: If you don't want all the new media and pretty effects that make FS2 look even better, all you need is the latest FSO Launcher and EXE file. Run those, create a new pilot, play through a mission, and check if it saves, then report back :)
