I just realized that one of the weapons in my campaign had the same name as everyone's favorite administrator here:

Quote
$b GTM $b MX-75 $b Thunder

We have also recieved a large shipment of the new MX-75 Thunder missile. The Thunder is a radical upgrade over the MX-64 Rockeye utilizing enhanced payload and guidance systems without a sacrifice in size. The Thunder can hit enemy fighters and bombers from as long as four kilometers away with pinpoint accuracy and test pilots have reported that the weapon is also quite effective in close-combat situations. Thunder missiles are being distributed among the $f Sekham's squadrons as we speak.

This was actually done before I came to HLP, so I hadn't thought of the coincidence until now.

LOL, first Setekh is an AWACS, now Thunder is a missile. Carl, of course, has always been a Shivan...I don't want to think about the insurance rates for the average HLP mod...

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Or the Honor Harrington books, though I tend to believe the one on the Hyperion ones is more of a badass, even though I didn't read them...

Shrike is also a gunship from "Darklight: Conflict" (which had very little plot despite its good-for-the-time graphics), and the main fighter class in Tribes 2.

Just slightly.  The whole 'seemingly invincible, able to distort time and teleport at will' thing tends to do that.

I fly Shrikes all the time in Tribes 2...

hehe, the heat-seeking homing device is good enough not to require one though.   ( try it here: http://wind.prohosting.com/cp5670/PItest.zip  )

He is also destroyed all the time, being a ship is one thing but being a disposible missile is another.

Mine could be... let's see... a star destroyer named by an 8-year old to make it sound tough.

Yeah that's where I got the image.   I have no experience whatsoever with 3D modeling and rending, so I figured I might as well the defaults.   The TAG-C was never used in the game and the CB graphic might therefore be a bit harder to recognize, but anyone could tell where I got the other two:

(yeah, it's a really cheap solution, but hopefully the mission quality will make up for it  )

This just reminded me of something; a year or so ago I couldn't thnk of a name for a Shivan destroyer in my mission and asked my brother (he was 8 at the time) for a name to see what he could come up with. He thought for a while, and then came up with this utterly incredible name: the "SD Devastating Massive Killer" was ready to attack the GTVA!
