Secret Mod Update (Warning-lots of screens)
Well my mod isn't really a secret, just under advertised ;). I don't have hosting or website designing capabilities so I'd rather not over advertise my mod if I don't have a website of my own. Beware! Lots of writing below. If you want to skip this, then go to the bottom where all the pictures lie!

Some of you already know what it is, for those of you who don't my mod is quite different as far as I can see. My mod is a unique universe I created and spent the better part of 3 years developing in my head. It is completely unrelated to FS2 too. It evolved from being a simple story related to Mecha to a huge 5 part stand alone series. So lets get on with it, my story is called Silent Dawn and this mod takes place in the final episode: Silent Dawn 5: Final Life. You may be wondering "Why the last episode?". Simple: All episodes are stand alone, you don't need to know the other episodes to understand this one. The most your going to get from he others  are references and reflections. Not only that, episode 5 takes place 2200 years after episode 4. Also episode 4 had very little space battles, mostly ground battles. This mod is more or less being made for multiple games with FS2 as the most active one.

For a little background information:

Homeworld Republic (Homeworlders)- This is our Human faction. But they are different, there are still Terrans in the Galaxy but the Homeworlders are the supreme race of Humans yet. Thousands of years ago a nuclear war killed most of Earths population, however before the war 2 million people, who are part of a global security organization, escaped in time leaving the Terrans to their fate. These were the ancestors of the Homeworlders. Back then the HSF didn't really like the Terrans much anyways due to the fact that they won't stop warring with each other. The Homeworlders were dedicated to not repeating Earth and to create a new order and build a peaceful empire that would last thousands of years.  Approximately 50 light years away, behind Capella lies a single yellow star that had 2 habitable planets in one orbit. In fact the planets were locked onto another's gravity making the two twin planets! That is where they made their new home. They had many hardships, especially from their greatest adversaries in known history: The Templar. Templars are radical Terrans who took control of Earth after the war and enslaved the population. When they learned of the Homeworlder's escape they attacked them. The Templar invasion sparked the First Silent Dawn war. It was called Silent Dawn because of a final observation: One man stood over hundreds of thousands of dead bodies and witnessed a sunrise. That man heard nothing, no wind, no birds, no bugs, no movement. It was an uneasy sensation. As the sun rose, the phrase: Silent Dawn was first muttered. And so hence, any future war of similar intensity would be referred to that. ((That means that there are 5 Silent Dawn wars in total because there are 5 SD episodes-more details on that later)

The Templar invasion was repelled and the Homeworlders struck back at Earth and driving the Templar off (((NOTE- I said the SD episodes were stand alone, the only exception is episode 2 (Return to Earth) where you MUST know episode 1 to understand). The Templar, however, escaped Earth and fled to an unknown location. The Homeworlders tried to convert Earth to be like them. The result was mass riots, murders, and grand histaria. The Terrans ousted the Homeworlders from Earth telling them to never come back. Ever since then the Homeworlders had an extreme deep hatred of Terrans. When they left Earth they created a proclomation that instituded a degree of Containment of the Terrans. The Terrans will not colonize beyond 5 light years past Earth or will be severly punished.

I say again, SD5 is quite stand alone so I won't tell you about "SD3: The Trade Wars". #3 had very little relavence in episode 5. Episode 4 is a favorite of mine. This episode marks the final death of the templar, but is also the most costliest and bloodiest of all. In episode 4 the Templar returned to wage a final Crusade against the Homeworlders. They threw thousands of warships at the Homeworlders and landed millions upon millions of troops as if they were soldier ants. SD4 had heavy use of Mecha and very little use of space battles. The war was great, and the Templar were defeated. Tracing their path, the Homeworlders attacked the Templar's planet. Rather than wage a costly war there, they decided to do the impossible: They landed and fended off the initial attack and place a "SuperNova" Bomb on the planet and ran for their lives. THe templar thought that they won only to be annihilated by that planet killing bomb. The templar's planet was shattered, crumbled, and exploded. Killing 3 billion. SD4 would mark the greatest war in history, as well as the final great war of the 2nd Millinea.

Man lots of writing!

Before I go into episode 5, here is a Year listing:
SD1:2655
SD2:2657
SD3:2795
SD4:2895
SD5:5095

As you can see, #5 is quite out there :D.
The Homeworlders SUCCEEDED in creating a peaceful empire that lasted for thousands of years! Though they still fought wars (especiall the Containment War against Earth) the Homeworlders have been prosperous. In the 4th Millinea the Homeworlders reached their limits on conventional subspace drives. The farthest the Homeworlders can go in any reasonable time was to Deneb. In order to further explore the Galaxy, they developed the Mega Gates. These gigantic rings can lock onto a gravitational signature across the galaxy and create a small wormhole. A huge team would then cross with the necessary equipment and construct a more rudimentry but still functional Mega Gate on their end which would temporarily seal the connection. They would then transport more supplies to complete the Mega Gate.

When the Homeworlders first activated it, it took them halfway across the galaxy. The gate was acting wierd when it targetted this star's gravity. When the team got their, they were confused. The star was a normal G class. So why did they come here? Only a giant star or black holes can be used on the mega gates. This system they are in had unusual subspace activity going arounds so that must have been why the gate chose this location. They finished the gates and explored this unknown system. They discovered a habitable planet with intelligent lifeforms. They were dissapointed in that they did not discover advanced aliens, but rather primitive Medival hybrids. But that is what suprised them. This species look as if someone ripped the heads off canid and put them on humans to put it simply. Because of thier freakish similarity to human life, this warrented further study and observation.

They soon constructed another Mega Gate on the other end of the system and activated it. However yet again, they were taken to an area of intense subspace activity. But this time, they met more aliens, advanced ones!

Well that conlcudes this story lesson!

This mod takes place in 5095 during the winding days of the Homeworld-Kkharaca War. The war was highly unpopular and under fought. It started after the HSF killed a Kkharacasian spy and the Kkharacs replied by declaring war. But this was mostly for PR than anything else. The Kkharacasians often backed down from a fight or just ignored the enemies' ships and went their peaceful ways rather than fight the Homeworlders. Same goes for the Homeworlders, they only fought when ordered to. They just ignore the Kkharacs unless attacked. This 'war' has been going on for 150 years with very little effort to stop it. However, a plot is brewing that will change history forever.

PICS!
These are TEST screens. Not actual campaign or mission screens.
-Pic1
A Kkharacasian Destroyer closes in

-Pic2
The destroyer unleashes 5 beam canons all at once.

-Pic3
A Hurricane 5 Heavy Cruiser. One of the most powerful ships in the galaxy.

-Pic4
A Kkharacasian fighter wing in formation attacks.

-Pic5
Their formation is split, divided, and conquered.

-Pic6
Homeworlder Blizzard Medium Fighter

-Pic7
Cockpit view of the Blizzard

-Pic8
2 Thunders approach the side of a Hurricane

-Pic8
Cockpit view of a Thunder witnessing a new model of ship shooting

-Pic9
A Lightning Destroyer gets gutted.

-Pic10
A distinct feature of this mod is that you will see LOTS of big ships very often. Sometimes you may see as many as 3 or 4 Hurricanes in a single mission...

-Pic11
...and see possibly many get killed like this.

As anti-Kkharacasian as it is right now, the Kkharacs are not the true enemy or the enemy in the Silent Dawn. The truth is much more sinister. As you probably notice, this mod is heavily emphasizing scale and intensity. I am trying to use as little tiny dogfights as possible unless necessary. After all, a Silent Dawn is supposed to be a war with unmatchable intensity and destruction.
I have created a masterpiece.

Re: Secret Mod Update (Warning-lots of screens)
Also this mod is quite open. What I mean is that I inserted many small plot holes into this story so modders can create campaigns that truly follow and move along the story. One such hole is the "Containment Wars". A war between the Homeworlders and the Terrans. The Terrans broke contaimnent and entered Sirius. THey then ousted the population there and settled the planet claiming it their own. It greatly angered the Homeworlders and a war reminicent of the Earth-Minbari War erupts. There are also spin-off style sequels, and possibly campaigns that take place in SD4. There can also be campaigns during the beginning of the Homeworld-Kkharaca war where there was actually intense fighting. I have high hopes that this mod will succeed greatly.

I nearly forgot. Remember, the Homeworlders met the aliens in the 4th millennium. Much has happend in that thousand years. This includes a war the Homeworlders fought against 2 alien races: The Raghal and the Himotig. Both races were killed off but the war was quite intense so it would make a good campaign.

Here is a list of the current galactic alien powers:

Taimari -Most advanced race in the galaxy through sheer age. They are 20 Million years old but develope slowly. Since the time the Homeworlders first met them they haven't changed at all.

Jha' Oull -Old race that was forced to start over from zero when a great civil war reduced their once great civilization to nothing. They have regained much of their technology after thousands of years.

Kkharacasian -A young, brash race who are relatively peaceful but aggressive at the same time. Their technology is only a few generations ahead of the Homeworlders but the Homeworlder's tech is far more 'powerful' than the Kkharacasians.

Raghal -Extinct- A race of seemingly raptor like creatures who have a taste for battle and technology. They were killed off by the Homeworlders because they couldn't match the power of the Homeworlder's weapons

Himotig -Extinct- A race of large 4 armed giants. Easily 10 feet tall and extremely strong but still an extremely young race. Killed off by the Homeworlders easily because their infiltration pods couldn't penetrate the thick armor of Homeworlder ships.

Re: Secret Mod Update (Warning-lots of screens)
Hate to say that I didn't read much of that (short on time, y'see, before I gotta run), but I must say I love your ship design. The Hurricane, in particular, is awesome, and the Destroyer opening up with all beam cannons is arguably cooler than the Sathy.

A question - how powerful are these cap ships? Relative to FS ships? 'Cause the bigger FS ships are already hard enough to kill; I'm a bit worried that I'd be blown to atoms before I could make a difference in the fight.

But, what a beautiful fight it'd be. =D Again, love the ship design. Looks anime inspired, sort of, what with the colors and all that.

A question: The fighter you're using in the earlier images. Is that the Blizzard? I can't see the underwing pods on the image you have of the Blizzard, so is the one from the first few images a heavy fighter?

Re: Secret Mod Update (Warning-lots of screens)
Oh, yes it is! It is the heavy fighter. Relative to FS2, the armor levels are somewhat similar (the Lightning has 20,000 more hitpoints than a hecate). If a Hurricane lines up on a Sathanas, it will unleash its 2 front spine mounted beam cannons and will make short work of one. But if the Sathanas has the advantage and opens up the Hurricane will die fast. The fighters, on average, are much faster and more manueverable than the FS counter parts. For example, the Blizzard can go well above 160ms and accelerate to that speed in less than 2 seconds. The Thunder can go around 140ms and get there in around 3 seconds. The Kkharacasian fighter is just as fast but not as maneuverable yet has considerable firepower thanks to its beam cannons. Now depending on what your fighting, you may get killed easily. All Kkharacasian ships use ONLY beam cannons so expect to dodge long beams of death often. If you fight a lightning destroyer, expect to fly through a rainstorm of plasma and missiles but no flak at all. Hurricanes have only 6 beam turrets to kill pesky fighters and bombers. These turrets are small but fire a constant beam rather than bursts so if the beam catches you... your dead.

There is ALOT more detail to the story and I don't want to add more to an already big post!

Re: Secret Mod Update (Warning-lots of screens)
Yeah I also skipped through the description (I'd rather play it and get the details in briefings!), seems very elaborate...

BTW glad to see you finally got the big boy in game. Looks awesome.

That shot with the neb under your fighter looks cool...

Re: Secret Mod Update (Warning-lots of screens)
Yeah, I hate writing huge descriptions here, almost everything I know will go into the game database and the story progressed in the briefings and cinematics. Yes, this mod will feature rendered movies :D. I have currently made 3 'test' command briefing videos too :D and they certainly look good.

Re: Secret Mod Update (Warning-lots of screens)
Mh cutscenes...are you willing to post them seperate to view them without the mod? I would kinda like to view them...maybe even play the mod when time allows it.

Re: Secret Mod Update (Warning-lots of screens)
I haven't made any GOOD cinematics yet. I'm still trying to get the hang of particle effects and explosions. I'm also working on the physics engine in 3ds so I can make better scenes (like seeing a destroyer ram a battleship?). I hope I can get them as AVI without any problems but after hearing the SCP going to OGG I am certainly worried I may not get them working.

EDIT:

I forgot to mention the gameplay mechanics! (Where's my head!) Well this mod, like BSG-BTRL, will make use of the glide feature as well as the strafe feature. These factors are not only important, but necessary! Given the rate of fire on many ships as well as their armaments, you will be doing a lot of dodging and this will probably prevent you from even attacking. So using strafe and glide you will be able to fight on a new level. The AI may not use it but in order to do the most damage and suffer less deaths, the strafe is an important feature.

In this mod, some cap ships are considerably stronger than FS2 ships. Especially the big ones. Fighters and bombers will have a hard time against a Kkharacasian Destroyer because of its numerous and accurate beam cannons. However if a Hurricane lines up it can take one out in a singe shot. If you don't have a big Hurricane covering your rear but do have a destroyer, your best bet is to kill the large beam orbs to protect the destroyer as it launches long range torpedoes and heavy missiles. This means that if cap ships enter the battle, you may be pressed into a support/defensive role rather than an offensive one. Unlike today's wars where aircraft carriers can win a war, it will be like tomarrow's war. I read that once railguns are operational on naval ships, they will out range, out power, and safe guard pilots, effectively reducing a carrier's role in battle but still an important role. You will be often launched into battle for precise, short range, or dogfight attacks.

Whew! Enough for now.

Re: Secret Mod Update (Warning-lots of screens)
Right then, I'm in the works for a cockpit for some cinematic sequences. Unfortunately there won't be any humans shown at all yet because I just can't make them yet :).

Re: Secret Mod Update (Warning-lots of screens)
Vengence, it'd be too much to say that you've gained a fanboy. However, I can safely say that you've gained at least one guy who's absurdly excited for this.

You, man, are awesome. Love the ship design, the shots, love rendered cinematics (yay, WCS Prologue!), love it all.
