Computer hangs at connecting screen for more than 15 seconds
Well, if you wait 15 seconds and it still doesn't connect, you're allowed to quit, right? I've forwarded the ports (7808 and 7117, right?), I've placed the multiplayer configs, changed to read
Code: [Select]
fs2netd.game-warden.com
12000
, and still nothing! Interestingly, before, I connected fine, rejoiced, and quit to do a print job. But now, it doesn't even give me a failed message!

Where did you place the configs?

Check your anti-virus software as well as your firewall.  I know NAV internet worm protection will block FS2 as well.

I placed the configs in the right places, in the mediavps data folder as well.

Use the Run in a Window option from Features >> Dev Tool and you can rule out it being a firewall pop up or anything like that.

Re: Computer hangs at connecting screen for more than 15 seconds
Hmm... I ran it in a window, and nothing popped up. Iwas able to connect. But just now, I didn't run it in a window, and a Norton window popped up and told me I should allow access. I (quite obviously) did. And lo! it worked!

So, might this be a problem with my connection?

EDIT: No, it's not working after all, it says "connection failed" instead.

Re: Computer hangs at connecting screen for more than 15 seconds
Check your password is correct. It really needs to tell you if that's the error but at the moment it just gives a standard "Connection failed" if you made a mistake typing it in.

If you want to double check your password go to fs2netd.game-warden.com abd try to log in to the website. If you can't you've made a mistake with your password/forgotten to register in the first place.

No, that's not it. I've retyped my password over and over and confirmed it with the website.

And you've configured your firewall to forward port 7808?

Re: Computer hangs at connecting screen for more than 15 seconds
I've configured the router to. I also forwarded port 7117 because it said so in the picture in the FAQ. It should be configured to forward either UDP or TCP, right?

Re: Computer hangs at connecting screen for more than 15 seconds
I think I read that UDP isn't used, only TCP.
OK, UDP, not TCP.  :shaking:

This has probably also been mentioned, but you need the 1.2 FS2 patch for everything to work.

Strike that. Reverse it.

As for 7117 I've never seen it used nor seen any sign of it in the code. I have no idea where the rumour it is used came from in the first place.

Go to the guide on GameWarden, look at the picture. He has both 7117 and 7808 circled, even though the guide itself says just 7808.

Oh I know that Matt's guide has propagated the rumour. I was just wondering who started it. Cause I heard it well before his first FAQ went up and it was only when I checked the code and watched my computer play a game on ethereal that I realised it wasn't using it at all :)

watched my computer play a game on ethereal

WOW! Is this in CVS yet? I can't wait to play a multi game over the fifth element of the world! (Air, Earth, Fire, Water, Ether)  ;)

What's the line speed? 100 Tb/s?

I'm going out right now to convert my Ethernet home network to an Ethereal one!

ooooooooooohh..... you were watching (the game) on Ethereal, not playing the game on (over, through, using, etc.)  Ethereal (which I assumed was a typo of Ethernet, and I was going for a joke about it.)

My mistake.

It originally came from the interplay support site I believe.   It was in the support sections on the VBB.

Re: Computer hangs at connecting screen for more than 15 seconds
Port 7117 was originally used by part of the PXO support.  I've historically told people that they don't need it, because they didn't, but that particular feature is actually making a comeback with the next version of FSO (3.6.10) so it would be good to be ready for that.  :)

Oh, and the new FS2NetD, which will be in 3.6.10, will no longer hang.  The connections will run in the background and you will just get a popup with the basics of what's going on.  This popup, and whatever function it is notifying you about, can be cancelled at any point.  :)

Great. The almighty solution to whatever problem I might possibly have comes out in the next upgrade, just after everyone has breathed a sight of relief at getting the current upgrade done.
