How does this ingame planet look?
I'm experimenting with the registry hacks and various maps in the game - this planet was created in Lunarcell, placed in FRED2 and stretched to 5x5. This is what it looks like in game:

What do you guys think?

That's probably the best in-game planet I've ever seen.   (someone from TBP step in and correct me here if you want... if you can   )

It looks darn nice! Try putting it on top of a nebula background and we'll see how that looks too. Oh, and planets... I painted the planet map for Array #187 a while back, you like?

Edit: lvlshot tags added - if I can go to the trouble then you sure as hell can

It looks 10 times better then the FS2 once stretched to 5x5 this one looks like its's still on it's normal size.

Glad we have a winner, and because of this:

Ikeya Produtions Mark 2 is about to be reborn!

Oh btw Setekh, you did use Spire for that right? It looks damn sweet... what was it - custom map applied to a sphere or something with the clouds done using particles?

How does this ingame planet look?
Now that is a good planet picture.  A lot more detailed then the ones in FS.

Here's one with background nebula - as you can see it obviously cuts off into black a little sooner than I'd like it but I guess theres only a little work that can be done with that.

'Course I did.   Hand-painted map onto a smoothed sphere with the clouds created from (approx.) 160,000 hypervoxels, which is why it's relatively undetailed.

Oh, and as for the lvlshot tags, I left them off because they make the picture bigger on my window, which lags the screen bigtime.

M'kay - what do people think of the latest planet? I'm trying to refine the technique on the background (so that theres no black/green (255) edges on it and looks better with nebula).

Got some more up - Not my favourites right now but I'm experimenting with how to get the best possible look in game.

(Yes I know about the green section of the red planet, I've got to edit that out).

And if you have clouds, use real clouds, not those crappy artificial ones.

Looking real good, though - I was toying with the idea of making planets for FS2 a while back. I have a great gas giant preset I can send you if you want - get on ICQ.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Whats Bright? I haven't heard of that before (is it a program or a feature? I simply don't remember any reference to it anywhere).

The clouds are all using real maps taken from satellites. Which one do you think used artificial clouds?

That gas giant sounds cool - I'll get on ICQ asap

The Red Planet looks more like a Sun to me.  Also, the edges are a little sharp.  Not much of an atmospheric effect, ifn' you're goin for that sort of things.

Wow, very nice images there.  Just out of curiosity, what programs did you use to generate those?

Photoshop and the Glitterato plugin

And the red planet (is a planet  ) though I can see where your coming from, as for the edges - I'm working on it (it can be fixed).
