Re: What browser do YOU use?
So basically only people who know anything about computers use firefox?

Not quite, but that general direction. More accurate would be to say that among people who have know-how about computers, Firefox's usage levels are very high. :)

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

And if i asked the main differences between IE and FF, i would be directed to search button, or another topic.

I tried FF once, and it didnt seem too apealing. IE 7 is pritty cool IMHO, especialy the mulit tabs.

Most of the new features in IE7 have been ripped from better browsers like FireFox or Opera. Like multi tabs. and the "Open these tabs when the browser is next started."

Only time I use IE is to download Firefox on a system that's not hooked up to my file server.

Not quite, but that general direction. More accurate would be to say that among people who have know-how about computers, Firefox's usage levels are very high. :)

The other thing is that your average user simply isn't aware of Firefox (or any other browsers) and just sticks with the pre-installed IE.

Jeez, not even I am that cynical.  The 'average' user isnt nearly as unapt as it used to be.

And at the subject at hand, I use Firefox.  I would have used Opera, since it's the only standard compliant browser available right now, but webmasters seem so determined to push Firefox that they break the code on purpose, and include fixes in the HTML for firefox, so that Opera doesnt work.  It has finally worked on me, as the number of sites I visit with Opera have dwindled to a very low minority.  These tactics are ****ed up, and so I'm forced to use a greatly inferior browser because of it.  Shame on the University of Ohio for making all this ****ty firefox hype.  Shame on them indeed.

Re: What browser do YOU use?
Indeed. You don't need hacks to get FF working. I.E7 even less so these days.

Re: What browser do YOU use?
Most modern web browsers are interoperable.  i.e., what you see in IE7 (what I use) is what you should see in FireFox.  For the most part.

As a webmaster, I've no idea what you're talking about.

I agree.  "Most" webmasters don't deliberately include FireFox-specific code that will "break" Opera or Konqueror or whatever.  In fact, I'm not too sure that there is that much FireFox-specific code.  Maybe some strange JavaScript functions, or prematurely deprecated tags.

Browser-specific code is sort of anathema to what the FireFox/Mozilla project is about.

Now, on the other hand making pages specifically for IE... THAT is a crime.  Especially when one uses annoying, deprecated tags as:
