the first time i opened m3 (the almost definitive version) it crashed 3 times... i took about 20 mins only to open the mission + 1/2 hour only to read and understand all the events... now i started re-writing the briefing... which means that the mission will be even bigger....

Heh, I don't think anyone hating Inferno is why it isn't classed as FS3, it's a damn good Mod, it's just that (a) it wouldn't fair on the other Mods in the community, it kind of belittles the work they have done, and (b) it would be the source of endless argument over such things as 'canon' and 'continuity', much like anything calling itself FS3.

Do other mods campaigns take place in the same period of INF?

This mod is "intended" as FS3 because FS3 would have been similar to it. I give for sure that the GTVA had to fight whatever took control over Sol(like in CW).

I think BWO takes place, if not at the same time, then very close to it. There are other campaigns that do, but I can't think of them off the top of my head...

Actually, I think Inferno has a... mediocre story to be honest. I mean, it's predictable, got few (major) plot twists, etc. This is the sort of thing I don't exactly like about Inferno. But it has many side campaigns like Gateways and INFA, which is good.

Since no-one knows what was going on in Sol while the GTVA was cut off, there's no telling what happened, I see INF being as good an idea any, I've never been one for nitpicking, as long as the game is fun and well executed, it doesn't really matter where the EA Fleet came from etc.

Take Twisted Infinities as an example, it's on hold while I'm at Uni, but far from dead, and it's set 11 years after Capella. There's stuff that happens in TI that doesn't tie in with Inferno at all, does that make TI wrong and INF right? Of course not, it just makes them two different takes on continuations of the same story.

Don't get me wrong, Inferno is definately worth a play and is a great Mod that shows all the hard work put into it, but a lot of hard work goes into other Mods as well, and I just feel that labelling Inferno as FS3 isn't fair on them, and might actually deter them from finishing.

Reaching the Inferno number of custom stuff is difficult. Also, unlike other mods, Inferno has its project leader always available for answers and suggestions.

Flipside, I agree with you. No mod should be called FS3.

There are a lot of mods (TI for example, when I saw the website I thought "ZOMG!!! I want to play I want to play I want to play I want to play I want to play I want to play!!!") that for the amount of work put into them and the period of the storyline would deserve this title.

No one is calling INF FS3. We are just saying that it's the mod that gets closer to FS3....it takes place MANY years after FS2 and added great stuff like Ancient and EA ships.

We don't know anything about FS3. It could've taken place 2 months after FS2 for all we know.
