How come we never seem to get many horror games for the PC these days? you get them left right and centre on Consoles we as the PC we seem to get mainly World War 2 shooters, I'm the only real horror games i have played and have scared me are Realms of the Haunting, Clive Barkers Undying, System Shock2 and Silent hill 2 which is console port and thats what I'm on about the PC has never had to my knowledge game like Silent hill, solely built for PC i wonder why this is? i know there are a few coming out this year i.e Alan Wake and Clive Barkers Jericho, Why do PC developers seem to stick the world war2, sci-fi shooters and RPGS etc, i mean its good for you according to scientists, to get a good scare now and again as it is good for you body to laugh

FEAR certainly kept me on my toes.  I'd call it better-than-decent horror.  Tried it?

'Course, even if they'd done away with the whole supernatural element, it would still stand on its own for the enemy AI.  I swear, the Replica soldiers are at least twice as smart as your average CounterStrike player.

Plus, you know FEAR>CounterStrike because at one point C4 is applied directly to a hostage.  How cool would that be?  "Hostage Defusal: defuse the hostages."

the last horror game i played was the 'Sin episodes: Emergence'.

but yeah i see what you mean, you got sci-fi shooters like quake4 for a bit of fun, and not enough like half-life or system shock 2 to scare the **** out of you.

Eh, PC more or less started the survival Horror Genre, way back when with Alone in the Dark.  Too bad how the latest installments turned out.

We've got Bioshock coming too.

of course, you can always get transcend for SCP. or try doom3 or any of the doom games.
Fun while it lasted.

Then bitter.

ok i what i was trying to get at was that we see Horror game series alot on the consoles ie Res evil, Silent hill, the suffering, and many more but on the PC you only get a few and i was wondering why this is, it the same as space sims, you get more on consoles that PC. So sorry if my first post is hard to understand, i was pretty tired when i was typing.

i didn't realize that 'Sin episodes: Emergence' is horror. The problem i have with FEAR is that after the first time you play it you know where the little girl appears so the scare factor goes down. Were as in Silent hill the scares don't always come from the same place.

Only Silent Hill deserves the title "horror game" of those.

If you can, dig up some of the old Gabriel Knight titles.

do not torment the sleep deprived artist, he may be vicious when cornered,
in case of emergency, administer caffeine to the artist,

Call of Cthulhu - Dark Corners of the Earth was pretty scary. It's not so much shock scary as atmospheric scary, which I guess is the proper way to do a Lovecraft game. It's not a perfect game, but if you like horror I recommend it.

Started playing SS2 for just the first time only recently.....doesnt really seem to phase me, but maybe thats cause ive already been 'phased' by the likes of Doom 3 and F.E.A.R.  ::)

Doom3 didn't really scare me that much, it did for the first few levels but then it became the same old run, monster jumps from closet or from behind a door.

How do you get SS2 to work on XP? will it even work on Vista  :nervous: ?

I didn't know about those. I'll assume they can be googled?

If you think about it, Zylon Bane is lot like a guerilla leader: he comes out of hiding about once every year to deliver his message to the world, which basically consists of "ah, so I see you're playing SS2; my contempt for you is lessened. You'll be wanting to get the texture and model pack", after which he promptly disappears back in to the shadows.

Too bad all the mod attempts at creating a System Shock type game fell through. There was a really promising one for Doom 3 called Sapphire Scar, but it seems to be dead now.

TO be fair, I believe ZB made the texture pack or somesuch, so you can't blame him for that :)

Shinji Mikami has a dark imagination. The only thing darker might be the foreboding mansion that the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team encounters in Resident Evil. Anyone who remembers the dogs smashing through the window will understand why this game takes top slot. If you've forgotten, maybe it's better that way. Some things are better left in the dark.
