the Shivans 'openly' communicate with the Terrans or Vasudans?
A forgot where I read this but...I vaguely recall in the story SOMEBODY actually tried to communicate with the Shivans & actually got a response but they gave only one word in reply: "Die!" was all the response supposedly said; So...Does anyone know if this little exchange is actually part of any of the active campaigns or mods or some bit of fan fiction?

TIA;

Fan fiction, most certainly.... Dunno what campaign it would have been in if any though.

What, you mean like Shivans boarding his ship, slaughtering his command crew, and then taking him off for some wookie love?

I think you are remembering the movie Independence Day :lol:
Quote from: POTUS
"What do you want?"
Quote from: Alien speaking through possessed human
Dieeee!  DIEEEE!
...at which point the alien tries to kill the POTUS through the possessed human, and the Secret Service pump about 50 rounds from their semi-auto pistols into the suicidal alien's body, finally finishing him off with a few headshots.   8)

Oh, I remember 'Independence Day'; that Alien was actually quite chatty speaking thru professor Data!
I am pretty sure that one word reply ('DIE!') involved the Shivans & I'm pretty sure it was fan fiction; I was only wondering if this was based on one of the better known mods like 'Silent Threat' or some other one;

In canon, the Shivans don't say anything other than "<incoming transmission>". :P

If I remember right, diplomatic contact with the Shivans resulted in the deaths of the diplomats.

Unless Shivans talk via gunfire, then negotiations have been quite heated.

I've never played Deus Ex Machina; care to elaborate?

If that's a joke, I apoligize for missing it.

If not, Deus Ex Machina isn't a mission - it's a concept, referring to a completely out of the blue and very arbitrary way of reconciling conflict at the end of a story.

Deus Ex Machina was a campaign that mocked many of the errors in logic of the Freespace series.

Nope...s'no joke; I know that there's a campaign called 'DeM' but have never played it; I thought maybe the quote  ("DIE") was from THAT campaign...NOW....given Mars' comments in HIS post I might just give it a shot;

POTUS?! Lol! And the alien did say something else before.

Quote from: President of the United States
I know there is much we can learn from each other, but only if we can negotiate a truce. We can learn to co-exist. Can there be a peace between us?
Quote from: Alien through Dr. Okun
Peace. No peace.
Quote from: President
What is it you want us to do?
Quote from: Alien
Die. Die.
That's probably not completely correct.
The alien doesn't try to kill him, he uses telepathy to show him what they are up to. IMO the ID4 aliens always seemed similar to the Shivans. Impenatrable shields, big planet/city-destroying ships etc...

You do know what POTUS means, don't you?  :D
BTW, the human that got possessed didn't survive... not sure if that was intentional (I thought it was, considering the message!) or not.  If the alien could have, he'd have killed them all... remember when he first got loose before possessing the doctor, he was killing everyone in the room.  :shaking:

Trust me, it wasn't from DeM. When you play the final mission you'll see why.  :p

Dark Hunter;

S'no problem...the concept of the story sounds amusing...trouble is I can't find myself a link...might you be able to point me to a download point for it?
