Awesome, first post!  Glad to have stumbled onto this board and see that the Freespace community is alive and well  :)

Anyway, perhaps this has been discussed a lot seeing as there are quite a few writers on this forum - but does anyone know who was originally responsible for the Freespace plot?  Were they different writers for 1 and 2?  If so is there a possibility of getting into contact with that person?  As I see it, if no company is willing to make the next step, why not a mod based on all the great updates to FS2 that can be based on the most sound canonical jump in the story?

Hope I don't get flamed for this as, although it isn't a simple "FS3" thread, its does share a relation.

After 8 years of this community being around, don't you think something like this has already been discussed?
It has. Volition has not made any indication of what the next plot line might've been.

Yep.  thats what i thought.  but volition never released the author's name?  or was he in the credits?

The main story writer for FS2 was Jason Scott.  The guy who came up with the FS Universe was Adam Pletcher.

Mike Kulas, the president of Volition, has this to say about the storyline for FS3...

ah...what an end...err...of sorts.  its just too bad he never made his way to this place...i'm sure there would've been a lot questions put to rest.  but, thats why this place has a lot of writers too.  thanks for the info Goob.

Actually...

We should all find out Jason Scott's address and start sending him bottles of Glenfiddich... we have to know where he lives so we can find out what the plan for FS3 is!

I'm sure after about 2 bottles, he'll be FAR past drunk...

haha, yeah that was what I was thinking from the start.  to at least get some idea about where it was going and then if only that much have the community go from there.

I have to say that I would hate to be Jason or Pletcher in the engulfing scenario that is the history of Freespace.

Imagine if you built a world from scratch, made two games for it, and it is a story many enjoy and a game many played, and want to hear more about, but it turns out because of money and corporate maleficence you can't talk about it or build on it anymore (even though you came up with it and it's yours - just not on legal paper).

That has to be the worst thing any accomplished writer can face.
