Re: 1/3 of americans see no point to having internet
I certainly don't consider the Internet an essential. It's just that going without it would mean that I'd be bored a lot more.

The Internet is for entertainment, in my case. People who don't want it... that's fair enough. They're obviously better at keeping themselves amused than I am.

The internet does suck, but I enjoy it nonetheless. 8)

Re: 1/3 of americans see no point to having internet
The question is, is this the 1/3 that isn't yet addicted to it like the rest of us fools, or is it the 1/3 that has beaten back their addiction and realized the internet is the greatest threat to their productivity ever created?

I say this as someone who was supposed to be studying for an Abnormal Psychology midterm for the past hour.  Guess what I've been doing instead.

The question is, what does the internet suck?
Air, or your life so that you become an unsociable cyber-zombie?

Of course these people could be the 1/3 of people who do not realise that things they use such as YouTube or google are part of the internet.

The thing is, these people are probably getting by just fine without it. If they do ever get it, I'm sure they'll get addicted to it just like the rest of us.  But I'm sure that the people that don't have it honestly don't need it - they're probably rural folks or people that *gasp* actually have an active outdoors life, and don't see a need to sit in front of their computer for hours at the time reading pages of text or watching videos of stupid teenagers hurting themselves.

More information, yes.  Quality is up to dispute.

Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.

More than that, how much of that information was pictures or sound as opposed to plain and simple text?

I think that a picture such as Goatse or Tubgirl is worth an amount of words not exceeding "OMFG **** Alt+F4 *vomits*" myself. :p

but a picture is worth a thousand words. ;)

How much memory does a single word of text take up? Like five bytes, give or take? Given that some pictures are a couple megas in size, that would make them worth a million words.  ;)

I find people's reactions to goatse hilarious.

This is why I use the screen-name 'CaptainGoatse' at the local Computer Game Society. There's always someone who'll ask what it means...

one byte per letter, unless youre using a unicode font, in which case its like 2. formatting adds more. it takes about 24 bits or 3 bytes a pixel.

this usefull information has been brought to you by cat-a-pillar, like a cat, but with alot more legs :D
