I have no idea how long it is since I last posted here, but anyway...

EDIT2:  http://ambience.i8.com/orion_fix.jpg

EDIT3:  http://ambience.i8.com/orion_fix2.jpg

My first proper render including a FS ship, which may explain why it's a bit plain... I'm working on better...

By the way, is the render contest still going? If it is, any chance of entering this?

Its huge

The planet needs a tad bit of work to make it a little more realistic (looks like a generated planet so just toy with some settings) but its an excellent render and I like the angle the Orion is at.

Cool!

You need to add motion blur to that, though.

IceFire is right - it's huge!

Something scary happened when I looked at the sun - it started to grow...I think I'm loosing it...

That said, I love the fact the Orion isn't facing the right way up - the colors look good and the background is also nice. Ice is also right about the planet - but overall it's great!

How many graphics cards did you kill to render that beast?

That must have took longer to render than the Final Fantasy movie.

It's friggin good though. Nice to seem some rotated ships. Everyone else has the ships being straight but space just ain't like that.

The image is enormous but it looks great.

Yeah I really liked the perspective view as well. Gives the whole image a better sense of depth in the third dimension IMHO.

Thanks for all the comments, input is appreciated, glad you like it

Ok, fixes:

Planet: Fixed (At least I hope it looks better).
Motion Blur: Added.
Image size: Reduced from 2048x1536 to 1024x768. (I like making stuff big while I work on it...   )

Enjoy...

I must agree... the sun really seems to grow when you stare at it... and then you go blind

Nice render

it looks like I have a new picture for my desktop... And only things that I really like get there.

That Orion.... It's probably the best I've ever seen.
It came from outer space! What? Dunno, but it's going back on the next flight!

Well, I'll be a greased Jesus! Cool!

Give the Orion some bump mapping, and (possibly) LunarCell a morfe convincing planet, and you've got a sweet-assed render there! What'd you use to make that lens flare- I really like!

Glad you all like the perspective on the Orion... Truespace turns up some strange things, some of which are cool

About the planet: Are you talking about render 1 or the fixed render, or both?
Bump mapping I'll start doing as soon as I find a viable way to convert from .cob to .lwo and .3ds files... 3D Exploration does it, but only for 30 days...
The lens flare was just the result of a lot of playing around with SolarCell to get it looking right: nothing special there...

For all you people who think the sun gets bigger, you're not alone... I do too   Maybe an explanation: the sun is going supernova for no apparent reason, and the Orion is hot-tailing it out of the system... It fits

A few renders that don't include FS ships, that I did a little while back:

Er... the second's an improvement, it's still a tad artificial-looking... I preferred the first overall, was less blurred...

I've reworked the planet yet again, and I'm hoping it looks better now...
Also, despite Stryke 9 said it was blurred, I've blurred it purposefully, since I suddenly realised the planet would be out of the depth of field...
I think it, as a whole, looks just a little too blurred for comfort... Anyone else think that, or have I just been looking at it too long?

EDIT: Depth of focus? What the hell was I on about?

Thanks for the offer, but I'd need one of everything in .3ds, and I don't want to put you to that
I'll find a way...
