Sure, you can make your own missions easily. That's what FRED2 is in there for. That is the original mission design program used by themselves to build the game.

As for being confused about FSOpen: read this. It should help a lot.

The collossus is embarrassed a bunch of mods were able to fire beams more frequently than it was without melting down.

Multiplayer FS2 is FS... just use the FS2 FSPort mod.  BTW, what are you running?  Retail?  SCP?  IF SCP, where did you get it from?

And how can i tell if its the retail version because i can play entire the main campaign thing and I can use any ship in the Terran arsenal except the capital ships???

Unless they came out with a different version of the original..... or not ...... I did buy this a long time ago.

Use the link in my siggy to get Turey's Installer.  Use this to update your FS2 with SCP + Mods.  It works quite well.

PS, no, not an inconvenience.  Quite fun actually.  I like helping people.

As far as I know, there aren't any FS1 multiplayer services available anymore. The only way to play FS1 in multiplayer would be to use the FSPort, but:
1) there may be the "hacked tables" problem (unless FSPort tables have been validated by FS2Net). Anyway, you can play even if the tables haven't been validated, but stats won't be recorded.
2) sometimes, mods cause multiplayer to crash. I'm not too sure about this though (MediaVPs can crash multiplayer, FSPort may not crash it).
 
If you want to search for some people to play multi, go in the HLP IRC channel (server: any EsperNet server, like esper.net, the channel is #hard-light), you should be able to find somebody.

BTW, click the link to Turey's installer in jr2's sig. That should install a full copy of FS2 + SCP (and also some mods I think, I never used Turey's installer, I have the original FS2 CDs). With that you shouldn't have any problem.
