Help with a Photoshop image needed...
I'm working on a project at the moment which requires an image of 1024x768 with a grid layer covering it that looks as near to the Volition node map grid as possible. Therefore it must look like this:

If anyone can either make this grid layer for me, or knows of a Photoshop plugin capable of doing so, please tell me - I'll be extremely grateful. For preference I'd like a Photoshop file with a black background and the grid in place but other alternatives are acceptable

I did something like this once with PSP (Photoshop also has the feature); just make one of the small squares with a few lines that have gradient textures on the them, texture the whole image with that, and then do the same thing for the thicker lines. It worked pretty well for me.

Ok, here it is -

Thunder, I know you wanted a Photoshop version, and I've got one, but being uncompressed and all, it's over 1MB, which is too large for my webhost (limit 256kb per upload). The brightness of the thick and thin lines can be adjusted seperately, for the desired effect (if you don't like my effort). Thunder, contact me on ICQ and we can sort out some kind of transfer.

It is made with, how should I put this, "innovative" use of Powerpoint... That's all I can say really.

As you can see I have changed my signature from beginner to editor; heres how you do it…

Pattern 1#
1. File/New: with these settings
Width: 10 pixels
Height: 10 pixels
Resolution: 72 pixels/inch
Mode: RGB Color
Contents: Transparency.
2. Select the zoom tool and click it 9x times to zoom in on the background layer (This step is not necessary)
3. Press CTRL+A (which is equivalent to Select/All)
4. Edit/Stroke: with these settings
Width: 1px
Color: 5D5D5D
Location: Center
Mode: Normal
Opacity: 100%
Do not check the Preserve Transparency box
5. Without de-selecting: Go to Edit/define pattern and name it smallbox and click okay.

Pattern 2#
5. File/New: with these settings
Width: 50 pixels
Height: 50 pixels
Resolution: 72 pixels/inch
Mode: RGB Color
Contents: Transparency.
6. Select the zoom tool and click it 4x times to zoom in on the background layer (This step is not necessary)
7. Press CTRL+A (which is equivalent to Select/All)
8. Edit/Stroke: with these settings
Width: 2px
Color: 5D5D5D
Location: Center
Mode: Normal
Opacity: 100%
Do not check the Preserve Transparency box
5. Without de-selecting: Go to Edit/define pattern and name it bigbox and click okay.

Note: Pattern1&2 Files do not need to be saved at all…

Image Creation
1. in your image create two new layers...and name them top and bottom.
2. Select the bottom layer and press CTRL+A and then press SHIFT+BACKSPACE and select Pattern and select the smallbox you created and click ok. Change the blending mode to screen and the opacity to 65%.
2. Select the bottom layer and press CTRL+A and then press SHIFT+BACKSPACE and select Pattern and select the bigbox you created and click ok. Change the blending mode to screen and the opacity to 95%.

Wella !! Your graph...though not as fine lined as the volition graph; I could not achieve this because you can not go below 1px…

Simple

Enjoy!!!
