Just Discovered FS2 Scene
Well well well, I bought FS2 back when it first came out and was completely stunned by it (even bought a new joystick just for it that i still have). Absolutely loved the game completed it a few times, really it was the sense of scale that other games had just never managed to achieve.

Then just yesterday i was thinking, damn FS2 was a great game, i wonder if there is any newer games that have been produced that go along the same lines. A quick google and i find that there is a massive FS2 scene thats been going for years. Just breathed life back into the game for me. So i'm downloading it again, and really i can't wait to play.

If i had found out about this earlier i most definately would have become part of the scene myself, ah well. Just going to have to congratulate you all on keeping it alive. Very few games manage to create a community that lasts this long and still has so much support after so much time.

As a matter of interest have any other similar games came about that in effect succedded FS2 (i've read enough about FS3 now not to mention it :P).

Good to meet you all.

:welcome:

Exits are to your left and right, as well as to your rear.  Unfortunately, the airlocks are rather unreliable, and the teleporter only works inbound.

In case a fight breaks out, there are flamethrowers under every seat, however, due to budget cuts, they are only filled with water.  You could try some of the projectile weapons in the weapons closet, but most of them are broken and are more effective as bludgeons.  The Plasma Rifles are in their own closet, and only :v:olition , an admin, God, or the hyper-intelligent shade of the color blue can open them.

In case of a water landing, you can and probably will be used as a floatation device.  If you happen to be exploring the ventilation shafts for some reason (most likely because you are looking for a campaign you haven't played yet), and you come across a five-legged creature with multiple glowing red eyes, you've found Carl, our sometime resident Shivan.  Give him your lunch and back away slowly.  If he's not hungry, you might be alright.  If he is hungry, and he's in a good mood, then at least your death will be quick and relatively painless.  The SCP is all that is good.

Karajorma's FreeSpace FAQ and the FSWiki are your friends.  Mention efF esS thr33 at your own peril.  And, however good it might seem, don't listen to takashi*, and don't efff with Goober.

*takashi seems to be an alright guy, just take his advise with a huge serving of sodium chloride.

Go D'l the Procyon Insurgency, after you get the normal megaload of campaigns from Turey's Installer or hip63's DVD.  Then d'l the TC The Babylon Project, then get The Wing Commander Saga, then BattleStar Galactica: Beyond the Red Line.

Nothing is better than FS2 currently.

Newest game I find worth mentioning is Starshatter ( http://www.starshatter.com/ ). Not quite strong in the epic story department. But it does simulate large carrier battlegroup battles nicely, and you can be promoted to the bridge of a heavy cruiser. Or even lead an entire carrier battlegroup!

Not everybody likes it (I do). But it's worth checking out.

You can also try out Darkstar One, which I find to be a bitter reminder about how the world works. It's pretty and easy to play. But plot sucks and is buggy...

Re: Just Discovered FS2 Scene
Oooh , I forgot, there's that russian one (I cannot recall it's name at the moment) that's about to come out, (or has just come out) that looks pretty damn good, no news of an english version yet though!  :( . Prophet just reminded me of it, I'll have a search for it and post a link if I find it!

Really? Russians make good games! Actually, most eastern European games tend to be above average contraptions. So please tell tell tell what game are you talking about!

X3: Reunion? But then again, FS2's combat engine still wins IMO.

And don't forget Inferno: Alliance to the list of mods-to-try too :D, unless Turey's installer is already loaded with it... (I don't use it :doubt:)

Yeah, found it, Tomorrow War  <- here's a trailer for it. Looks quite impressive from what I have seen so far!

Re: Just Discovered FS2 Scene
Hi, I'm new to the FS2 scene as well. Unfortunately I can't seem to find the full version of the game anywhere and torrent seeds seem to be dead.
Would anyone know where I can purchase and/or download the game?

You can check out Jr2 's signature, the Freespace2Open installer is probably your best bet.

Phwoar, you guys sure have the fastest greeting in the west.

Just loaded up that FS1 port, feeling good. And managed to find that joystick i mentioned lying about in my room.

Quite surprised really that no games succeeded it. I mean while it didn't sell well, the whole captial ship v captial ship worked excellent, figured someone else would have tried.

Have a nice day

Looks like a frigging missile orgy... :)

Quite a lot of talking heads though... Which means that when the english version comes, we have to endure crapload of piss poor voice acting. :(

Re: Just Discovered FS2 Scene
You guys should check out eternal silence beta. It's a source engine mod. If you have HL2 or CSS on steam you can download it for free. I'd love to point some coders here towards that project, their fighters need some serious reworking.

I'll try that download, I didn't think it had the full game though. Pardon my noobishness.

TY for the welcome :) *points to the reactor in his science vessel* Good thing you didn't hit there !

Well, here's a review on the game Link

However, what I like the look of is the continuous flight from space into the atmosphere of a planet aspect of gameplay, that could be very ...........hmmmmm........... interesting!

Re: Just Discovered FS2 Scene
I'm currently in my freshman year in college, drawing near the end of my first semester. I'm going for an Assoc. of Science for a transfer to university for Bach. of Science with a major in computer science.

Basically, I'm going to learn coding, graphic design, and programming ! :D Once I do, I wanna help ! ^_^

I probably have similar ideas to implement such as being able to play one of the three races, board ships and attack subsystems (like eternal silence) being able to pilot and man capital ship weapons, planetary warfare, etc.

I hate the fact Volition went under, I wanted to apply for a job with them. Freespace was a game that was way ahead of its time.

Interplay went under. :v: is still kicking as an independent department of THQ; sort of like how Maxis is to EA. Expect quality out of :v:'s work, just like you do out of Maxis's work.

Yeah, but haven't they gone console?  Or are they still planning releases for the PC?

THQ focuses on consoles as of late. Too many people would rather plug some ugly-ass box into the wall and their TV and play then try it on their computer. Other than guaranteed playing if you buy an XBox 360 game for XBox 360, there is little else I could say good for consoles. I prefer PC; control plus a keyboard and mouse.
