Looking for a writer
I'm looking for a real writer to help flesh out a campaign idea and bring it to life. And I apologize ahead of time, but I don't just mean someone who can write stuff. I'm looking for an artist. To see what I mean, read this article (which triggered this whole request to begin with :p).

That's what I'm looking for - that, or best offer. ;) If you think you fit the bill and want to give it a try, let me know.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Re: Looking for a writer
It doesn't matter. :p I'm not looking for a writer to write a short story. I'm looking for a writer to help flesh out a campaign skeleton. :)

Re: Looking for a writer
Well without knowing what the source material is and what I'd have to work with, I can't tell you much at this point.  I can tell you that I'm better at working within a framework already created by someone else to think up ideas than I am coming up with my own totally fresh world to work with.  Maybe that's why I like freespace so much, there's so much to work with already.

That may be a vague answer, but you've made me curious, and I'd like to offer my services.

Re: Looking for a writer
I can write frameworks, dialog, and stories.  If you're interested, I can pass along a few of my short stories via email if you like so you can get an example (though obviously writing a FS campaign is an entirely different kettle of fish).  Won a couple minor awards for my writing some years back.

Some of my dialog and mission revisions are in place in the Warzone Restoration too, so you can see some small examples.  My inprogress FS2 campaign isn't even close to being completed in writing, nevermind FREDing so unfortunately I can't share it :)

Some of my influences (games, books, authors, etc):  Deus Ex, System Shock 2, HL1/2, The Bourne Trilogy, Robert Ludlum and the rest of his novels, Craig Thomas and his novels on MI6 (notably The Bear's Tears, A Hooded Crow, and The Last raven), Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes), Oscar Wilde, Douglas Adams, Tom Clancy, Tolkien... and I'm a bit of a Firefly/Serenity freak =)  In short:  I'm very widely read.

Anyway, drop me a line if you're interested and I'll send you my email addy.  MSN and ICQ info are in my profile.

If you want, I've already got a campaign in the works, but I'm willing to help you flesh out your idea...

Re: Looking for a writer
How much do you have, and how much are you looking to get out of a third-party?  I can usually take a concept and turn it into a basic outline (major plot points and rudimentary mission concepts) with an evening's work.  If that's all you're looking for, and you've got a seed of information with which to start, I'd be happy to help out.  If you're looking for more, I'd rather not divert time from my own projects, but I can take a day or two off to provide you with something.  (Once I get my desktop set back up, I can dig up my outline for Second Front to give you an idea of what to expect, if you're interested.)

I'll have a bash, sure. But like BF said, a little more information as to what you want off the 'artists' would be helpful. :)

What do you need? Just finished exams yesterday, free time.

Re: Looking for a writer
Ok, well I don't want to spread the spoilers around too much... ;) How am I supposed to pick between all of you? :p

Killfrenzy, what I'm looking for is this: I have a general idea of a progression of events, but I think I need a writer to give it that human touch.

I have something that really does look frighteningly similar to this:

1) Player starts out in this situation. Sees this and that happening.
2) Player participates in such and such events.
3) Player is transferred to someplace over yonder. ;)
4) Bad Things™ start happening.
5) Player's unit is tasked with investigating said Bad Things™.
6) Player finds out that it's Worse Than Anyone Thought™ (it usually is).
7) Player is tasked with making the Bad Things™ turn into either Good Things™ or Not-So-Bad Things™.
8) Grand Finale / Mega Plot Twist™ / Invocation of "...wow." emotions as campaign ends.

:D

So as you can see, it needs some meat on them bones! :)
