Two New Star Wars movies...

George Lucas Announces Two More Star Wars Movies

We absolutely knew that George Lucas was not done with the Star Wars universe. The Star Wars creator revealed to Fox News that he will make two more live-action Star Wars films.

“But they won’t have members of the Skywalker family as characters,” he said. “They will be other people of that milieu.”

The two “extra” movies will probably be one hour in length and made for television.

At the one hour length, what will differentiate the upcoming hour-long live-action Star Wars television series from the films? Wouldn’t it be a good idea to make them a bit longer?

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

NNNOOOOOooooooooo!!

...exept if he actually does the wisest thing and, you know, leaves actually making this stuff to people who know their business. Like in Empire Strikes Back and (to somewhat lesser extent) Return of the Jedi. But I retain the judgement until I see what they manage to pull together.

I haven't got stellar expectations, but on the positive view, that means they can only surprize me positively.

EDIT:

More Star Wars Films? Nah, Not True…Is Roger a Hack? Yeah, Pretty Much

Quote
(...)

First problem with Rogers blurb? His story is not accurate and also a bit misleading. It is common knowledge that Uncle George is making two TV series. The first one will be an animated series and the other a live action series. Each show will be 1 hour long for broadcast  just like Battlestar Galactica and the Stargate shows.

That’s it, no new films but the same TV shows that we have all known about for at least three years. Trust me, we have double checked with Lucasfilm and Roger is either misquoting George or simply heard wrong or just likes to get his name in the headlines, now that’s possibility!

Now I don't know whether to weep or rejoice... I guess I'll still wait and see what they can possibly pull together.

This could be interesting...Granted that's interesting good or interesting bad...I guess I too would wait to pass judgment until I see them for myself.

Oh, I so wish it was those books, but turned into movies.  The Problem, is that who the hell would play Thrawn?

possibly someone from the Blue Man Group?

Re: Two New Star Wars movies...
On the one hand, I would really love to see some of the books turned into movies or TV shows. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure ol' George could care less about the books and such, and I'm concerned that anything he makes will wreck the Expanded Universe I know and love :(.
Then again, this probably isn't even true so, whatev.

Interesting...yeah I hope Lucas is behind it with the general overall ideas but that he's got writers and teams doing all of that stuff.  I love the vision but I don't like his writing...

Re: Two New Star Wars movies...
I disagree.

It can only get better. Especially if someone else than Mr. Lucas does the following:

-story
-script
-direction
-<insert movie industry term here>

I would love to see Lucas voice act a Hutt, however. Actually he could almost do it as live action role, considering the width of his neck. Just some digital tail and he's set to go.

I never understood why so many HLPers hated Star Wars so much.

I'm looking forward to this new TV series, it will be darker than many other SW films yet - except for Episode III, of course. And I like those kind of movies where the good guys aren't supposed to win, and even if they do, it costs them much.

Re: Two New Star Wars movies...
Well... Star Wars itself is one of my favourite scifi ever. It's just the episodes I-III that I dislike... or more specifically, I'm extremely sad about how Lucas ruined the extremely potent storyline. It had a lot of promise but the execution was sadly lacking IMHO. It's not even the acting - it's just the story was told in such a lame way that it embarrasses me. :sigh:

They were entertaining movies to look once, but they didn't really have the same something to them as the original trilogy.

And don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to what they can do next. Star Wars is still extremely potent franchise and I really hope they don't screw it up this time as bad as with ep. I-III. :)

Re: Two New Star Wars movies...
I hate Star Wars because of  a certain embarassing post in the SWC forum... And it was only because I didn't read the above post correctly. I know which is the original and which are the new trilogies.

:wtf: How can you possibly know this? It hasn't even been confirmed whether this is true or not. We don't know when it would be set, who it would involve, if it would take EU into account, etc. Unless, of course, you know something we don't, in which case please share. :D

Then, of course, I have to ask why you don't hate Star Wars, since let's face it, IV-VI are pretty much the antithesis of dark.

I've always maintained that Ep. I-III are good movies. However, they are not good Star Wars movies.

Not really, Empire Stikes Back was actually pretty dark for the time. Hell, the Empire was winning by the end!

I've always maintained that Ep. I-III are good movies. However, they are not good Star Wars movies.
I wouldn't even call Ep. I-III average, let alone 'good'. Honestly, did you see Episode III, or did you wander into the wrong theatre?

Episode 3: "Oh noes - 2 of the more powerful Jedi in the galaxy are unable to prevent from crashing into a freaking CAPITAL SHIP because their crafts are sabotaged by droid ladybugs that land within plain sight outside their cockpits and begin to eat away at things. Due to BAD WRITING, these 2 powerful Jedi's powers are unable to simple brush said droids into the boundless nether with a flick of the wrist and a touch of the Force."
