Are you going to play...
Have you all heard of these new games?:

Star Trek Bridge Commander
Star Wars Galaxies

I can't wait to test out Bridge Commander on my new 1.5GHz 17' Flatscreen GeForce2 computer. Galaxies comes out at the end of the year and hopefully by then I should have an Internet connection. Galaxies sounds like an excellent game. When these two are released I think I'm gunna have to say goodbye to Freespace (unless FS3 was to ever come around - yeah right...). Who can't wait for these games?

Star Wars Galaxies?
Haven't heard of it but I'm obsessed with Star Wars...what's it about?
Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

Star Wars Galaxies, IIRC, is the new massively multiplayer online RPG in the Starwars Universe. Yes, for the drooling fanboys, they even included Darth Maul's race for players. If it weren't cursed by the fact that almost every Star Wars game was crap AND the fact that its multiplayer only and online only, it might have been good.

Bridge Commander is a starship battle sim focus on the bridge, not on piloting. You give commands and stuff and your crew makes your ship fight. Not my cup of tea, and set in a universe that I find increasingly execrable.

But you have to like Enterprise though, surely...

Check out Galaxies at LucasArts.com and Bridge Commander at st-bridgecommander.com (I think).

Um. No. Actually, I find it visually appealing (nice ship modelling) and find that it benefits greatly from having the sound turned off completely. If one were to remove all the non-CGI from it, it might be notably improved.

FS3? absolutely.
all the rest (except freelancer)? pass.
Freelancer? At this point, I wouldn't touch this game with stolen hands. A thing of purest vile nastieness. I would sooner play "Extreme Skydiving!" or "Deer Hunter".

I am waiting on Unreal 2 and Unreal Tournament 2; being a long-time Unreal fan, these will be my next two definite purchases. I have not heard (yet) of any really good space sims coming out this year, so FS2 will remain a favorite for me. Other games I am really looking forward to are Deus Ex 2 and Thief 3, but these probably are not coming out anytime in the near future.

By the way, I picked up Medal of Honor: Allied Assault a few days ago and I am extremely impressed with it. If any of you are into FPS games or WW2 shooters, I would heartily recommend this title.

Till Jedi Knight (included), they were good. After that, they were all crap ( excepted Xwing Alliance, tho I for myself I didn't like it much, but regardless of my own opinion, it is a good game).

Doubt it's going to happen though

Lets see. The Arcade games were good (Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back).
Every one of the console games (and I mean all) sucked.
The PC games are a mixed bag. X-wing and TIE-Fighter were good, as were DarkForces and Jedi Knight. Unfortunatley, I can't find it in myself to like either XvsT nor XWA. The Rebel Assault games sucked, Shadows of the Empire sucked. All of the games from Episode 1 except racer sucked. Then there's Battlegrounds and That Damned Fleet Game (I can't recall the game's name but I so bloody regret buying it. Was it Rebellion? no matter, it single-handedly balanced the goodness of Xwing, TieFighter, DF1&2 and the arcade games).

The vast majority were games I wouldn't spend stolen money on, while the balance were so good as to make me upgrade my computer for the whole experience (DF:JediKnigh with an A3d sound card. R0X0R.)

Now we have StarWars: Galaxies. Let us ennumerate the way this game sucks right out of the box:
  • Pay to Play
  • Online Only
  • Multiplayer Only

I'm actually more likely to buy Freelancer than I am this game and I'd rather buy The Weakest Link than Freelancer.

Most SWs games are very good. Although liking the Weakest Link more than Freelancer is worrying.

Nope. I pretty much have to disagree with you. The vast minority of them are pretty good. The vast majority of Star Wars games make the Weakest Link look like a viable videogame buy.

Of course, I don't like the Weakest Link, but its got to be better than DiabloLancer or MouseLancer or JoystickSupportAsAnAfterthoughtLancer or YouDon'tFlyYourShipYourComputerDoesLancer or Wasn'tISupposedToBeASpaceSimLancer. *FEH*

If the whole control scheme isn't revamped so that you can control your ship completely and properly and directly, instead of using a bloody mouse, I'll not buy it. Moreover, I'll convince my friends not to buy it.
