Screamo metal annoys the **** outta me, I can't stand listening to it without getting a headache. It's not because it's too loud or noisy or whatever - it's that it has almost no rhythm, beat, or anything that can relate to music. It's three chords over and over, a repeating drum beat, and a guy that sounds like he needs a cough drop, IMO.

I love bands like Nightwish though, because even though it has the heaviness of heavy metal, it has melody and something that I can listen to - the female vocals just make it seem very musical, as opposed to angry teenager/young twenty year olds thrashing their brains out on a guitar.

Agreed!  And the ones that CAN play a tune are in a way almost more annoying, because I want to listen to the music but the guy won't shut up.  Like I just discovered In Flames a few months ago, and it's nice and catchy but still a bit too much hoarse-ing.

Excellent, thanks for the Sonata Arcitca mention, S-99.  Hadn't heard of them and they seem to be just what I want to hear ...so far.  Anybody else have some fun recommendations?

i dispise the american mainstreem metal even more. at least nightwish i will listen too from time to time, usually when i have a headache from listening to panzer division marduk at full blast and i dont feel like listening to motorhead. nightwish might suck, but the american mainstreem totally ****ing blows.

Smart thinking... But you blew it. Fins are something you slap on your spaceship to give it more "detail". Finnish (or finns) are the ones who will come to you some night your out clubbing, and purge you be the mighty breath of "kossuvissy".

Thanks for the reminder kappawing, unia i shall get as soon as i can. And yeah screamo metal may get to many. But, nightwish is not screamo, nor Sonata Arctica. As far as good american metal goes, rob zombie's my favorite, metalica i only heard like a couple of their songs, powerman 5000 got some good stuff too, and disturbed has some good stuff too. I'm always listening to SA or nightwish though. I do also have the rammstein discography, but i'm considering getting rid of it, i never listen to it, they have some cool songs. It's not that i don't know german, it's just i don't really connect with that band past their song du hast viche.

Maybe i should torrent my stuff out? I would if i were in a situation where i can setup my own tracker (i am), on an isp that doesn't care about illegal file transfers (circumventable with non tracker bittorrent dht networking). But my brother has bittorrent blocked, but with dht and encrypted bittorrent i can circumvent that too as he said his network won't know about the encrypted bittorrenting. But, i wont bittorrent anything until i'm in a better situation. Anyway, as far as finding an SA bittorrent, not too hard, you will get the whole discography, just don't worry if it's missing meaningless compilation albums

DC++ finds music in abundance. Especially Finnish music. Finns are pretty DC heavy people. Lots of servers and lots of chatting. And also quite a lot of file sharing...

So incase someone would theoretically wonder how to get a lot of music without paying, theoretically DC is one good BAD! bad bad choice. You give nightwish all your money!

Id say the best SA song is "White pearl, black oceans" but I think I stand alone there for some reason or another.

BTW they have new versions of "Ecliptica" and "My Land" on their 2006 compilation. (but they really suck so dont bother)

Some of their best songs though, like the acoustic and electric version of Mary-Lou can only be found on singles.

My other faves are "the gun" and "shy" which are found on their EP, Taktlavi(sp?), I actually BOUGHT the damn thing I liked it so much. In fact, the only SA album/ep I havent (and wont) purchase is Unia.

I didn't have much exposure to Finnish music before joining BTRL and its large Finn contingent, and what Ive tried Ive liked.  I enjoyed Nightwish, Apocalyptica and Lordi(c'mon its KISS meets Army of Darkness what's not to like ).  I listened to the new singer for Nightwish and thought it was pretty good, i dunno if she will be able to belt one out like Tarja could but we will see.
