So, I just saw an episode of Voltron...
I'm not sure whether to laugh or cringe, or whatever.

I watched the episode "The Pretty Spy" (or something like that) last night, and it looked decent at first, but then I started seeing stuff like repeated animations, and the voice acting was downright cheesy or bad (most of the time bad). The spy girl's actor was downright horrible, when it looked like she was yelling she was speaking in an abnormally high indoor voice. I couldn't understand her half the time. I think the best actor was the one who did the fat guy, but even he was bad.

Does anyone here know why Voltron is so popular? I remember watching a live-action (or CGI) series of Voltron, I thought that was a hell of a lot better than this cartoon.

Ugh. I wasted a half hour of sleep for that. :hopping:
To consider the Earth as the only populated world in infinite space is as absurd as to assert that in an entire field of millet, only one grain will grow. - Metrodorus of Chios
I wept. Mysterious forces beyond my ken had reached into my beautiful mission and energized its pilots with inhuman bomb-firing abilities. I could only imagine the GTVA warriors giving a mighty KIAAIIIIIII shout as they worked their triggers, their biceps bulging with sinew after years of Ivan Drago-esque steroid therapy and weight training. - General Battuta

Ahh..Voltron..the old days... I remeber watching it a loong time ago.
Together with Daitarn III, Saber Rider, Transformers and Centurions... hehehe.

Seriously, If you like robots/Mecha I suggest you grab Macross/Robotech (NOT Macross 7). Far better story, charachters and drawing stlye.

Re: So, I just saw an episode of Voltron...
Voltron's main appeal among the 20-something crowd is the nostalgia factor; most of the people who love it remember it as a cartoon they loved in their early childhoods.  It was a bit too early for me, but I know a lot of people a few years older than me who look back on it fondly.  As for your complaints about it, the business of licensing and dubbing anime series  of 20 years ago was not the the business of licensing and dubbing anime series of today.  Take a look at older series like Gigantor and Speed Racer, and you'll get the picture.  Voltron itself was adapted from a Japanese series called Go-Lion; from what I've heard, there were rather significant cuts and plot changes during the adaptation for American audiences.  For what the show is, though, it's good for a laugh in the "my God this is cheesy" vein. :p

I actually liked the voltron cgi a lot, that was so much better. And if you want to see an absolutely bad episode of voltron there is the first episode of it, that's where everything is bad, from the weapon noises to the people.
Every pilot's goal is to rise up in the ranks and go beyond their purpose to a place of command on a very big ship. Like the colossus; to baseball bat everyone.
