Basically the first generation were the ones that got so pissed off about it, because they were the ones that were there from the beginning and had to come to grips with the fact that the game would never be continued. The second generation came, and they raved about it, but the third generation told them it was bad so they stopped, without actually feeling that bad about it. Then the first generation pretty much left, and the second generation was all that was left when the third generation came around. The former started going bananas about when FS3 was mentioned, pretty much only because they were told to by the first generation. It's not really so much a sore spot though, because the second and third generations don't care as much as the first generation did/does.
Not saying that any generation is better than the other, just saying that each have different ties to game and the community's history. It's evolution, for better or worse (and that's up to individual opinion).
