do not torment the sleep deprived artist, he may be vicious when cornered,
in case of emergency, administer caffeine to the artist,
he will become docile after that,
and less likely to stab you in the eye with a mechanical pencil

That is interesting news... with Interplay shut down wouldn't that (effectively) mean all rights to the Freespace universe would be owned by Vivendi or open to purchase by the highest bidder?

that i whould belive... lets hope that if its true its a good developer that pick freespace up

Only if they stop making half-ar*** console games. Besides, if THQ says 'njet' nothing will happen.

It came from outer space! What? Dunno, but it's going back on the next flight!

and if the impossible would happen (yeah right, as if) they should make a privateer-style game in the FS-Universe.

One of us could pick up the rights...  , hey whats the status of the HLP Reserve Bank..    or maybe VolitionWatch might have a few bucks...   hey the community could always pitch in 2cents...   I spose Bill Gates could always pick up something if he even realizes it....but that would be bad...really bad...really really bad....

Anyhow THQ get your butts out there and purchase those rights, because theres one thing you can do that intercrap can't: !!!ADVERTISE!!!

Interplay going down sounds good; I wonder who (if anyone) will pick up the rights...

Who is Vivendi?

at the anti-interplay thinguy there. I think it's sad if Interplay goes bankrupt, and I think it's even more sad people down here rejoices about that.
Max, if Bill Gates actually bought the FS rights, I think it would be great. look at the last MS games and tell me about a single crappy one.
Anyway, Vivendi is a french company, it owns stuff like canal satellite and stuff like that, it's very big, one of the world biggest trusts.

Monster Truck Madness 1 and 2. But that's beside the point. Microsoft, when it comes to games, tends to let the developers do their job whilst Microsoft does its job (publishing). Most of the games published under the aegis of Microsoft have done reasonably well.

hehe, i forgot to put "recent", otherwise I could add other names to the crap list
Anyway, now, MS games are good. All the anti-MS people may not like that, but it's the way it is, period.

That's because, as mikhael already pointed out, they're NOT Microsoft games. As with all their really good stuff, they let someone else design it, then buy it and slap their name on it.

yeah, but unlike other editors, they give the credits, and let the developpers finish the game. Not many editors do that, and that's why their games are good.

Freespace wasn't exactly an Interplay game. Independence War 2 isn't an Infogrammes game.

Microsoft and Interplay and Infogrammes are publishing houses. Microsoft, unlike most publishing houses, takes a hands off approach to publishing, letting the development teams (Warthog, Digital Anvil, and the rest) do thier jobs. This is completely different to a company like Interplay or Infogrammes, who like to insist that the developers dumb down games to get broader audiences. How do you think Freespace and Iwar2 came out so easy?

let's just hope the volition picks up the rights, or a publisher a little more pc oriented buys voilition, microsoft hasn't done a bad job at publishing recently, i mean just take a look at Crimson Skies, and the Mechwarrior 3,4, and the upcoming (when?) freelancer just to name a few, also HALO is coming to the PC soon so that should be cool.

Actually, it would be nice if Volition had the rights to freespace no matter what, i mean what kind of idiotic lawyer came up with that idea? that would be like ID not really "owning" the rights to their Quake series, and therefore not being able to make any unless they had the rights.

Interplay didnt just not advertise, it seems to me like they hid the game from the public eye, so no-one knew it had been released.

It's called bad business management or being a complete bunch of f*****g retards they could've made them selves a lot of money on the freespace series, but i never saw and adverts of it, like many i played the demo out of sheer quriousisty (spelling!) and liked it so much a kept a lookout for a copy.

interplay didn't advertise, freespace at all really it makes you wonder, what kind of idiots run the show.
