The Ancient's monologue indicates that when a species is being hunted by Shivans, they won't stop even if they retreat to their home planet.

Quote
And we retreated to our home system.
Abandoned our empire.
We believed at home we would be safe.

For they are not a terrestrial species.
We know when we entered subspace we were trespassers.
But our planet is our home.

And yet still they came.
And our world is gone.
Well just because the Ancients home world was destroyed it don't mean the Ancients went extinct . they could have moved somewhere else

Hmm.  I like the Terrans.  :p  Except Command and your wimpy wingmen.  I understand putting some death sounds as carrying fear, but having all humans screaming for help as they die, and all Vasudans saying noble crap like "Avenge me!" (not that it's crap, but it's crap that the Vasudans are the only ones that do it)... I'd expect a good mix in there.  Shivans are kinda neat, but I don't like their single-mindedness.  They act like biological/mechanical robots... very intelligent ones, to be sure, perhaps hive mind explains this.

Vasudans are bitter over the Great War, and think too highly of themselves, and their ships (in FS1) suck IMHO.  (Think TIE fighters.)  I like the Terran weapons and craft.  And since I fly in them, and defend them, I like them.  Now if I could fly Shivan craft with Terran personnel that had Vasudan bravado and Terran open-mindedness (questioning Command when they are being stupid)...

  • A one hit wonder, you still want to touch this.
Shivans were awesome--their very presence is a nightmare in the mind of every Terran and Vasudan.

We all can imagine this--we encounter something that shares no commonality with us. They're faster, stronger, and smarter then us, not to mention outnumber us a thousand to one. They have weapons we have only dreamed of and are nearly immune to our offensive. They seem immortal--even after we finally squish one, they're immediately replaced by another. They appear out of nowhere and destroy everything--they leave nothing.

Anyways--the Shivans are definitely the #1 race in all sci-fi... in my opinion at least!

And the fact that you can't communicate with them (then bosch came along out of a shivans ass), and the fact that they don't want to war with you, they want to exterminate you.
Every pilot's goal is to rise up in the ranks and go beyond their purpose to a place of command on a very big ship. Like the colossus; to baseball bat everyone.

I won't use google for you.

An0n sucks my Jesus ring.

Vasudans are open minded too. I remember on one or even two of the campaign missions that a Vasudan pilot was questioning about Command's decisions, the mission, and etc.

Hmm, would Command in that instance be Terran?  If not, then you have a point.  If so, then that's just Vasudan arrogance coming through, probably.  It's just that Command's stupid enough that they actually deserve it.

You do fly Shivan craft alongside Terrans with Vasudan bravado + open-mindedness.  The final SOC mission where you check out the Knossos 2 sector with Snipes, Xinny and Zero.  The nice thing is, Snipes is invulnerable and the other guys are gaurdianed, so you can wipe everything out (I shot down all wings, blew up all 3 Rakshasas + comm nodes, AND disabled the Nebiros  :pimp: )

I like Snipes' line:  "What, do I look Shivan to you?"  after one of the other guys asks what those nodes are  though all the lines in that mission are gold :D

Too bad there aren't any missions like that afterwards  :(

The point was that the shivans will exterminate the species wherever it goes. They're finished. The Ancients being alive would diminish the Shivan's role in the game as the "Great Destroyers".

your wimpy wingmen

What difficulty do you play on?

Standard - which is Medium, IIRC.  Harder levels would be next to impossible, unless your wingmen get an infusion of wits with higher levels.  And, even the way it is, it doesn't take too many hits to vape you as it is.

Nope, it was Vasudan Command and Vasudan pilots. It was when you were flying with the Vasudans on that officer exchange program. I really liked flying Vasudan fighters, they handle much more smoothly and agile compared to the Terran fighters.

Wingmen get better on higher difficulty levels.

I balance my own missions based on Insane. Actually, (iirc) hard gives 100%--medium, easy, and very easy all give reduced points. Insane is just better--my favorite thing is to start targeting enemy fighters and give wings the order to attack. If I do it correctly, I can eliminate wings very quickly and without 1v1 dogfights happening (where my guys would lose). It gets very interesting when you start shooting at your enemies just to keep them moving--it lets your wingmen let loose.

Yeah, I like that part... not so much the "Oh, ****, I let 5 shots manage to find me and now I'm space dust" part.

Well, you can't have both. You can go for the Perseus which is a mix of a little of both qualities both it lacks the heavy armor and shields that Terran fighters have or the agility that Vasudan fighters have.

Yes it's good, until a slash beam or stray AAA beam cuts you in half  :(

Personally I go with heavy fighters.  You can always reduce speed and let more agile enemy fighters increase the distance in between, so it becomes easier to get a lock and gun them down (I kill lots of Dragons in a Herc 2 using this trick).

I still like Shivans though.  Their juggernauts look like giant space zerglings  ;7 and they use them in the same manner too (the Colossus killed a scout, the 80-100 others supernova Capella and lose a bunch of their own but the Shivans don't care)

Avoid the beams and you won't get hit.

That's easily said then done. Sometimes I swear they deliberately aim for me especially near the end of a mission. Nothing is more frustrating then almost beating a mission only to have a beam kill you without any warning.
