nukes shipping rant (again)
ok youve heard this a million times.

i live in alaska, every year we get money for living here. this year we got $1600 for 12 months of putting up with the ****ty weather and the lack of descent jobs. my account was already loaded now its down right bloated with just over 3 grand. cant think of a better time to buy stuff. maybe replace the old bad ram in my junker computer with new bad ram (sence none of the ram i seem to buy is any good and fails every memory diagnostic i can run on it). i decide on 3 256 meg sticks cause the way i see it lesser density means less chance of the ram getting fried on the way here and 3 times the chance of getting a good stick. with the shoddy quality control in the ram industry i need as much luck as i can get.
 :hopping:
now youd think it would be easy to order ram off the net. well if you live in say l.a., seattle, ny, phoenix, or pretty much anywhere else in the lower 48, then you can just go with the usually free ups ground shipping. anyway i go to newegg to find some ram, pick out 3 sticks of something and calculate the shipping. and its $18 $19 bucks for fedex 2day (wich really means 4 day and on occasion 6 day) and no usps. no!

so i go over to directron, i remember it only cost me 10 bucks to ship my copy of vista which i wish i woulda never bought because as it turns out vista sucks. so i pick out 3 256meg sticks of 2700 ddr, and procede to check out. excuse me, you want 24 ****ing bucks to ship priority mail. you know the post office have the flat rate box for 8 something and it comes with the packaging material. this is insult to injury sence last time i ordered from them they felt the need to hike the price. NO!

tiger direct, pick out my ram, i feel a strange sense of deja vu. look around for some other goodies. meh. so checkout. 2 options $44 and $52 for 2 (5) and 1 (4) day delivery respectively (not that i feel respected). i dont get why it costs so much to ship a little tiny box of ram that combined would be about the size of a pop tart. why is it i can get a book shipped for 5 bucks, a cd for 4 bucks, or a pr0n flick shipped for 6 bucks, and a bottle of illegally imported absinthe shipped for 15 bucks. yet it COSTS 50 MOTHER ****ING BUCKS TO SHIP A TINY PACKAGE OF RAM.
the reason for all this is simple. all those companies rely on comercial shipping companies who have a profound hatred for alaskans. the united states postal service will ship to alaska for no additional charge, and if they charge extra it like a couple bucks. further more the post office is the only ones who actually seem to know where i live. last time i ordered fedex they didnt even deliver to my house, i had to go down to their office by the airport and pick it up. when fedex does deliver they usually leave it out in the rain. ups doesnt even seem to have any trucks here. why is it that online tech companies have to discriminate against alaskans by relying on alaskanist shipping companies. cant they just use the bloody post office!
 :hopping:

i might as well use all my money to make a camp fire sence the internets made it impossible for me to buy anything :D

Lesson learned: DL and try out first, then if you like it buy it.

then why does the united states post office not hike the price? awhile back i put something on ebay, i forget what it is but thats not the point. the guy who bot it lives in florida, the state farthest away from alaska. this item was rather big but it managed to fit into the flat rate box. shipping cost me $8.10. furthermore priority mail is faster than the 2day service fedex offers when i buy **** off newegg. and last but not least the post office knows where i live. its ****ing rediculous to pay 20+ bucks for shipping when they dont even deliver it to my house half the time.

as for vista i did try a pirated version first and sorta liked it. but the legit copy had more bugs in it for some reason :D

Ouch. Well at least you got paid $1600. Anyways--I guess you ought to pay to get that defective RAM replaced. Grab something reasonable, like Kingston, and hopefully you'll get a good set. Other then that--how much more is ordering a lot at a time?

I notice on the cluster maps that we have a regular visitor from Churchill, Manitoba.  At least you can take comfort in knowing that there is someone much more isolated than you. :)

Did you try Tiger Direct, or  Tiger Direct.ca?

The latter might give you a better deal on shipping.

why is it that nobody will tell you how much shipping is untill you give them all your information. this here is why the earth deserves to burn

Because they aren't a private corperation (although there was a proposal to privatize it a few years ago, not sure how that panned out)

I almost thought this was about to be about that one incident where the Air Force jet took off with nucular weapons in its belly without anybody noticing. (read:  nukes shipping rant)

But instead I guess it's just Nuke's shipping rant.  So now I will laugh.
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

The funny thing about the cluster maps is...that no one visits HLP from the place where I live! I wouldn't trust it... :blah:
