Yeah, and then there's the idea about technology being a 'crutch', and when the Butlerian Jihad took it away, humans were forced to train themselves to act as biological alternatives to machines, like the mentats.
It could be that Brian and Kevin will use the film to somehow 'canonise' (in the fans' minds) their work on the prequels, because, depending on how much they're able to influence the storyline, they could add stuff to it that alludes to historical events that they've dealt with in their books (like the jihad). Then that would supposedly silence the pro-Frank naysayers.
Wait and see, that's what I say. I hope it isn't going to be turned into a standard vengeance quest action film. There's stuff in the book about ecology, politics, interdependence, coming of age/growing up (a bit anyway, sort of), culture, religion....so much stuff, it's kind of why some said Dune couldn't be adapted to film in the first place.
