Re: End of 9th Derelict mission problem
I'm really tired...

I was who discovered what happened in that mission. I was who made the fixed mission. AND I SAY THAT MEDIAVPS FIX THE ISSUE. PERIOD

Please read the Mantis report...

This is my last post over this subject.
IF YOU HAVE TROUBLES WITH FS2:
  • Please, please, please, READ and UNDERSTAND the sticky threads in FreeSpace & FreeSpace Open Support board.
A lot of people are willing to help you, but, as anyone can understand, seeing the very same "issues" repeated again and again can become quite depressing. Please, spend a bit of time trying to solve the issue by yourself.
    (Lobo deserves a monument).
  • Then, if you aren't still able to solve your issue, feel free to ask for help in that same board.
FYI, most of the troubles are caused by wrong mod installations which lead to either missing data or undesired cross-effects between them. Always follow the mod installation instructions and keep a clean FS2 installation as explained in the sticky threads. Two additional links about how the game handles game data:
  • If you think that you've discovered a bug, mantis it.
Provide as much info as you can, and try to narrow it down. A lonely "FS2 doesn't work" is not a good report.

Re: End of 9th Derelict mission problem
...unless I missed an update of the media VPs (and looking at the thread I don't see an update to the mv_models alpha patch) the issue is still in the old media VPs, so if this has been fixed somebody in the know please say so.  Otherwise, I've been following the Mantis thread and while DaBrain has said he is going to fix the Faustus model, I don't see a fix.

So... did I miss a patch update?

Re: End of 9th Derelict mission problem
I'm breaking my vow.  :wtf: :wtf:

+ If you use Mediavps 3.6.8. zeta mv_models.vp HTL faustus, (ie you are properly using the Mediavps): The mission works fine.

BUT

+ If you don't use mediavps, (or if they are wrongly used), then you use retail faustus from sparky_fs2.vp: The docking ring is rotated.

CHECK how you've installed your mediavps.

With future new mediavps (3.6.10), DaBrain is supposed to FIX the HTL faustus so it will behave exactly like retail, (maintaining compatibility motto). So with future mediavps releases, you will need the fixed mission.

Seconded.

I've got the latest mediavp set, installed properly in its own folder and added to the mod.ini for Derelict as a secondary mod, and I'm still getting the rotation.  The only way I don't get the rotation is if I use the fixed mission, or the 3.6.7 build.

So something else is goofy, because the media VP set doesn't fix the problem, as is evidenced by my original Mantis report.

Re: End of 9th Derelict mission problem
Are you fully sure you are using just mediavps?
IIRC there was another HTL faustus release by VA which maybe is retail-compliant.

As a fast test, I upload science01.pof just extracted from mv_models.vp. Install it in derelict\data\models (ie, the highest priority place), and check what happens.

As a fast test, I upload science01.pof just extracted from mv_models.vp. Install it in derelict\data\models (ie, the highest priority place), and check what happens.

ARSPR, here's what I've done (a few times):

-Create Mods\derelict
-create Mods\mediavps
-Download and place all derelict VP files into appropriate folder.
-Download and place mv_core, mv_music, mv_effects, mv_textures, and mv_models in the appropriate folder.
-Download the effects and models patches and place in appropriate folder (mediavps).
-Edit mod.ini to point SecondaryList to Mods\mediavps

With a correct Derelict and mediavps configuration, the bug in Rites of Passage still occurs.  It is NOT repaired by the latest mediavp set, just as the problem occurred in the original bug report.

My installation is, if anything, more organized than the recommendations.

As Cobra said, some of us know what we're talking about.

There are only two solutions that I know of that fix the problem for me:  3.6.7, or the fixed mission.

Re: End of 9th Derelict mission problem
I've just retested the issue with 2007-10-28 build and it happens as I told:
  • Derelict + mediavps 3.6.8. zeta. No problem.
  • Derelict alone. Rotated and blocking docking ring.
  • Derelict alone BUT with the addition of science01.pof from mediavps. Again, no problem.
And, take in mind that, since the time I "solved" the issue in Mantis 1168, I've changed my PC, I'm using another build, I'm using another OS (Vista instead of XP)...

So there are just two possibilities:
  • 90% probability. I'm glad to re-say that the issue is nothing less, nothing more, than what I've been ALWAYS saying. Sorry to say this but, you both, Cobra and MP-Ryan, are being really dumb with this issue. Your knowledge about FS2 is much lower than you think. You don't know how to install mods, how to manage mediavps, you have strange files in the middle or whatever. And I've said I'm glad because this option means there are no additional hidden and evil bugs in FSopen, not because I feel the winner of this discussion or anything like that. I don't give a damn being either wrong or right. I just want to enjoy a FS2_open as error free as possible. No personal offence meant in any way  :p.

  • 10% probability. There's some kind of hidden and evil bug I cannot replicate. But then, the ball is on your roof. Saying "FS2 is broken" and waiting for SCP crew to dig through it, is really the laziest option. You both MUST narrow down the bug and give more info:
    • Check with a debug build that mv_models.vp is being loaded.
    • If it is a build bug, pinpoint when it started to happen.
    • If some releases of mediavps fix it, tell which file(s) in that set fix it.
    • If it's some kind of data in the mission, try to make a short sample mission with just the conflictive entries.
I know that this work is a PITA, but what do you expect? Do you want Taylor, G5K, DaBrain, WCM, Kara or any other to spend hours and hours trying to figure out where the bug can be? You have a problem and the offered solution doesn't work in your systems. So, please, don't be so comfortable, and NARROW DOWN the issue.

Because of the last possibility I've being answering your posts. But this is the end, I cannot do anything more. If you still have a trouble it's your turn to exactly say when and how it happens.

Last hints and checks: Mediavps HTL Faustus generates a cache file of 504 kb while retail ibx is just 82 kb. I also upload my just created mediavps HTL ibx. Disable -normal, (because tsb generation needs ibx regeneration), and check if when you use this ibx, (place it in Derelict\data\cache), it is regenerated, (ie. you see a change in its time/date). If the answer is yes then you are not using mediavps Faustus but another one. If the answer is no, then you have probably discovered a hidden bug, but please NARROW it down.

How exactly do you do the second option?  Is there something more to it than placing the updated mission file (dl2-01.fs2) in the derelictscp\data\missions folder?  I don't understand how SCP would "know" to use the single file, rather than the one contained in the derelictscp.vp file, and so far, it doesn't fix the problem for me.

Re: End of 9th Derelict mission problem
And in a classic moment of stupidity, I forget that the original bug report was submitted using a 3.6.9RC build, not final.

I just loaded up Derelict and tested again with both 3.6.9 final and the latest 3.6.10 experimental build; the issue is fixed in both when the mediavps are present.  I don't have a 3.6.9RC7 build to go back to to try again.

So I stand corrected; with a proper recent build and mediavp installation, the bug is repaired, for now anyway.  I'll mark it accordingly in Mantis.

Hmm. I DID play Rites of Passage in a pre-3.6.9. My bad. :nervous:

Re: End of 9th Derelict mission problem
Since starting this thread, I've done a fresh SCP reinstall, including Derelict SCP.  I'm now back at the 9th mission.

Would someone please post a screenshot of how the Ganymede/Typhon combo is SUPPOSED to look?  I think it's fixed, but I'm not sure.

Re: End of 9th Derelict mission problem
Nevermind, it's fixed.  If anyone's wondering, the Ganymede docking ring is supposed to have its openings parallel to the length of the Typhon, attached about halfway along the ship.  It makes the Typhon look as if it could roll down a hill sideways.  The important part is that the Typhon's fighterbays are not blocked, so the shuttle can land instead of bashing itself to bits.
