Stormfronter,

Do you have a character on Anarchy Online the runs around saying "I'm uber"...?
he was on all last weekend.

shouldn't that kind of thing be discussed in PMs?
Fun while it lasted.

what? did he gank you? :p

*dragging thread back on topic*

Used Blender ages ago, quite like it. I like Milkshape's simplicity, I keep it installed even when I'm using something else because it's so good for manual optimization. Lets me at the triangles directly, none of this modifier **** or pretending you're working with polygons. Only polygon I need is a triangle, damnit.

Can't stand having some other program messing it up.. so it's mostly manual editing.. takes alot of time to do a detailed model but at least I control every single aspect of it :p
Tried wings3d and sketchup but didn't like the layout.. it's too clean and doesn't let me do as thorough as in blender but then again I'm a perfectionist when it comes to creating/painting.  ;)

No, I've never played that game.

:wtf: Wow, I can hardly believe so many people can put up with TRUESPACE! I can easily understand the large amount of people who use 3d max for example but truespace? Either you guys must have some really good version I'm not familiar with or you just stuck to it because you didn't want to try any other programs...

Re: What 3d program do you use to create models-Poll
Well, trueSpace 3.2 is free. And trueSpace 6.6 is actually fairly easy to use. You're not forced to work with a triangulated mesh and from at least 5.x (possibly a later version of 4.x) it has an add edge tool which makes it simple to triangulate faces with 4 or more sides exactly how you want.

Somewhere in there they also added an Add Face tool that automatically highlights any area with no face, with a continuous line of edges bounding it, that's under the mouse pointer. Click and there's a face you can fix up by adding new edge across it.

Combined with the Delete Face tool, it's very useful for fixing backwards normals. Delete the face then add it back and it checks the normals of the faces around the new hole and aligns the new face to match.

Another nice thing about not having to fully triangulate a model (until you pof it) is it makes UV mapping easier.

I'm never going to touch truespace ever again  :ick: . I have a legal edu 3DS Max 7 and I am learning Maya too. If anything these programs are my standard, though I still believe 3ds to be the superior when it comes to optimizing polygons and low poly modeling. Maya, to me, seems better off making several hundred thousand polygon models.
I have created a masterpiece.

With blender, you simply press f to add a face, x to delete one or w and select flip normal to fix a backwards normal. In fact, you can even recalculate the entire model's normals inside or outside with one click. Triangulation is just ctrl-t and you can UV map IN blender and export it with the texture already on it without having to use some middle ware program like lith-unwrap. Plus once the texture is on the model you can click and drag the foldout points to fix any stretches or things that pop up.

AutoCAD 2007
Then convert the AC07 files to COBs with Blender
Then make sure everything pans out in Truespace

I've not tested it all--but I love AutoCAD 2007. Steep learning curve but once you get the hang of it, you can make anything you can imagine. It's a no-playing-around program, however, so you have to have a design to work with. Pen and paper are welcome to sketch your models and add in distances and measurements.
