Any of you here still watch the PBS kids shows?
Whenever i'm home during summer or winter and i've got work on days (but not all), i get stuck with soap opera's on nbc, and ellen degeneres show at 4pm. A good way to fix this problem is to just slap on pbs and watch some sesame street, wishbone, arthur, reading rainbow, between the lions, and ocasionally mister rogers neighborhood (wtf am i talking about i watch all of the kids shows on pbs). The only show i really hate is teletubbies (talk about the only time i turn off the tv when i'm home :( ...i don't watch much tv up at campus).

All of these shows are better than soaps, still a blast to watch, and is just plain old good classic programming.

I was curious because where i am in alaska i get only 4 channels. Two nbc's, a crappy homebrew christian channel (it's like a D class movie on that channel), and good old pbs. Of course i love nova and nature, as well as many of the other programs that aren't the kids shows on pbs that i can't bring to mind right now.

Anyone else here still end up watching the pbs kids shows? Ever accidentally picked up on elmo's world? Happen to know what between the lions is (it's actually a pretty funny show)?

The only thing I'm watching lately is the episodes of Saint Seiya (Knights of hte Zodiac) I'm downloading ATM.

I only seen a dozen of episodes when I was a kid on italian TV, and I started downloading it for old times sake, but now I'm hooked :P

I watch those shows now and then, I don't really watch TV. If I want to watch a show (i.e. BSG or Stargate), I download it. The only show I consistently watch on TV is Jericho.

Re: Any of you here still watch the PBS kids shows?
Sesame street was my favorite when i was younger, i grew up hating barney, and arthur is the ****. Arthur was cool. It was like doug on nickelodeon. I like how they don't really have any new kids shows. Only like 2 or 3 of them are new, the others are cool and still great to watch.

EDIT: We should get nuke in here, i wonder if he watches as much alaska one (the alaskan pbs broadcast) as i do.

Meh.  I've hated Nickelodeon ever since they went on content-creation autopilot...  IOW, right after Ren & Stimpy got the boot, and Doug was sold to Disney.  Same thing happened to Cartoon Network.  Season 3 of Dexter's lab was pure pimp juice.  Season 4 and onward was epic fail.  And on both stations, it all happened at the same time.

So needless to say, I don't like to watch many kids shows anymore.

What about good old Nickelodeon? All That, Kenan & Kel, Rocko's Modern Life, etc. or was that after the failure? I remember watching the heck out of all those shows when I was little, that and the Batman cartoon.

Re: Any of you here still watch the PBS kids shows?
I remember rugrats. I use to watch that all the time when it first came out. And then i realized for a really long time that they hadn't made any new episodes for a long time when i got older. And by the time they did make new episodes, i got tired of rugrats

Re: Any of you here still watch the PBS kids shows?
Rugrats owned.  Rocko owned.  All up to the point of The Angry Beavers, which I think was the last good series to come out of the nicktoons branch.  Everything after that was the same old recycled crap.  Even The Rugrats, the only surviving original nicktoon, was infested with this garbage when they switched over to All Growed Up.

Kenan and Kell was just an extension of All That, which really wasn't that great in the first place.  For variety shows I had preferred MadTV by that time, which was WAY better by comparison.

Nickelodeon (and cartoon network for that matter) used to be a station that was targeted at kids, but adults could watch as well.  Hell, Pete and Pete as well as Salute Your Shorts I still have great respect for.  The shows were fun, decent, and did not lack intelligence.  Today it's just full of stupid crap.

Re: Any of you here still watch the PBS kids shows?
Salute your shorts was a great show. Pete and pete was way better though. I remember that old episode where they were fighting the ocean.

Oh man, All That is a really good show if you were young enough to enjoy it. That show was awesome, until i came back to it a year later after years of watching it and couldn't believe that stuff made me bust out laughing in the past. I never seen much of the angry beavers (is that supposed to be an adult joke hidden in a kids show?), but rockos modern life was cool.

Pete and Pete was always just a little too whacked out for me
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside
