I just got wind of the idea yesterday. And i watched jay leno with no writers, as well as conan with no writers.

Jay leno was like a bad day time talk show sort of like the ellen degeneres show without there writers. Conan O'brian was sort of ****ty as well, at least Conan put off the new episode with a depressed feeling because of the late show strike lasting for so long. But still, conan resorted to spinning a ring and see if he could make it to 41 seconds for it spinning, had no monologue, and was generally a depressing episode.

Conan and Jay are funny people (i'm not sure if conan is a comedian), they can handle it themselves without writers. But, geez, after two months, no more writers, they're newer shows blew ass. I hope they find out how to make up the difference a good way sometime soon.

Did anyone else watch the suckfest?

No haven't seen it yet (being in Ireland, it might be on digital this weekend), but I have to weigh in here, I think Conan is very funny in himself, but Leno is just a big chinned schlub who reads headlines from the Palukaville Post!

In other words, I don't think he's funny at all.

If they've lasted this long without their writers then maybe they had some backup material, but if conan has gotten desperate enough to see how long he can make a ring spin then I guess they are running on empty.

The thing is during the 2 month long writer strike, the show was not on air except for re-runs. The new shows were on last night. Yeah conan is way better than Jay.

Letterman got his writers back.

I can see conan lasting and finding a way around. Not jay though, he resorted to showing some fat guy in a mankini. That was just sickeningly wrong, and jay didn't seem to be too happy about it after the mankini showing happened.

I saw letterman, it was the good old **** that i hadn't seen in years.

EDIT: Conan is lasting pretty good, his second show without writers is way better, almost as good as his normal show. He's also been picking up better guests than Jay. Who the **** is going to want to watch the late show with jay leno when his guest is the host from the worst game show deal or no deal?

Also did some other research. Jay and Conan are part of the union with the writers. They had their shows off the air since november in support of their writers. Letterman pulled some kind of agreement with his writers. Jay and Conan came back on the air for fear of their non-writing staff losing their jobs. As far as the guests being really sucky for both late shows so far. That's because celebrities have sympathy for the writers as well, which means no good selection of guests for nbc late shows currently. Interesting situation, at least on conan you get to see people from snl being interviewed as opposed to ****ty gameshow hosts

Yeah, I've heard that they're technically both part of the writing staff but that only Conan actually does some of his own stuff. Crazy situation though that even though he's back on air he can't pen anything even for himself. I mean is it ok if he makes up gags beforehand and just remembers them? Har!

I don't like Leno much but please don't get me started on Letterman. The guy is a complete social freak by all accounts. At least Leno qualifies as, and can converse as a human being.
