*tips hat*
I'm a freeelance web/graphic designer. Which means I don't work for any one company or agency and have to rely on my own wits to find clients. The upside is the freedom this provides and the fact that, on a general level what I get out of the business is what I put into it, meaning the relationship between effort and payola is very direct. The downside is that the pay isn't regular, like with a normal job, and is actually less than if I were to go apply for a graphic design position at some company. Also, you have to deal with business matters yourself, since there's no Accounting Dept. that's going to chase now clients for money. But right now I'm young and prefer it this way, and truth be told I've been pretty lazy about advertising myself and getting better-paying clients, so I deserve what I get.
I mostly do websites, though I also design a twice-yearly (used to be quarterly) full-colour glossy magazine that's distributed to all campuses within the province (next issue we're going national). I also do flyers, brochures, posters, business cards and that sort of thing from time to time.
i could, but then again i dont feel that art should be sold.
Art ain't design, though a lot of pretentious designers think otherwise. It's pretty pictures you slap on a page to get people to buy stuff. As long as one is aware of that going in, there's no moral dilemna whatsoever.
