Credits:
Model and all Game/POF data by Akalabeth Angel
Textures by Freespaceking

Model Includes:
All LODs, Debris and game information that I am aware of. Textures have glowmaps, shinemaps, normal maps etcetera. Thruster points, weapon points, eyepoints, gas trails, docking points, etcetera and so on . . .

One odd thing though is that when I was fixing the docking point, apparently I have the support ship dock nose to nose, or, it faces the opposite direction of the fighter rather than the same direction. I'm not 100% sure how to fix this and I'm busy with other matters like finding a job so I'll leave it. It's a bit odd but it works so whatever.

Re: My first real Model (WIP) - Vasudan Heavy Fighter (pics)
The cockpit needs serious work IMO. It looks completely out of place.

Yeah the cockpit is the least worked on area . . .I just got the basic shape so far. And haven't really finalised the details in my head yet,.

I agree, the cockpit's just too damn huge and blocky. But the rest looks awesome.

Re: My first real Model (WIP) - Vasudan Heavy Fighter (pics)
Just realized which end was the cockpit. And it wasn't the one I thought it was. D'oh.

That said, if you reverse it and the "big lump" becomes the engine block it does actually look very Vasudan-y. They don't like pointy cockpits and the cowl area is a wee bit reminiscent of the way the Anubis' cockpit is between three forward-hooking wings, only more streamlined without the Anubis' silly "box-pit" :p

Re: My first real Model (WIP) - Vasudan Heavy Fighter (pics)
Hey thanks for the comments guys. Yeah, I agree about the cockpit . . . I still want to go for something similar, but that particular setup isn't doin it for me. I think based on some of the comments I have a better idea of what to do, we'll see if it looks like utter crap or not. Probably spend another 6 hours or so working on it after I have a good long sleep.  The wings will probably touch the cockpit in the end product . . .I think. I just didn't want to deal with that area right now . . . but still have 2/3rds of it to do I think. Only have the basic shape down. And need to clean up the rear interior between the wings . . . it's all crazy right now.

That happened with me for the myrmadon. I thought the cockpit was on the back with the fins next to the engines pointing out. Then i saw one in freespace, saw how hideous it was, and smaked myself after puking.
Fun while it lasted.

Then bitter.

Re: My first real Model (WIP) - Vasudan Heavy Fighter (pics)
       Some updates:
Hmmn . . . I don't like the cockpit. I think the Hammerhead idea is a cool one but it doesnt really fit Freespace. I have to Vasudan-ize it. I think I'm going to try and reshape the cockpit to look more like the Bakha Bomber's front end. Hmmnn . . the underside is close to being done, but the top needs a lot of work still. Though I have added a few things. I was thinking when I textured it I could put some faint glow in the undercarriage area . . . Also the depressed area in the fighter's back will be lit up as well sorta like the Anuket gas miner. I'm thinking anyway. . . power core or something like that.
Also, while I was modelling I thought of something . . there are no offset cockpits in Freespace. Offset guns sure, but cockpits? Nope. Not that I know of . .. at least, not on the allied side. Think the scorpion was offset. If I do another fighter model, that's what I'm gonna do. Offset cockpit.

       Any thoughts/advice?

      Thanks.
Some credit goes to the HTL Serapis, which inspired a few of them to be sure. . .. some people here are certainly a hard act to follow.

Re: My first real Model (WIP) - Vasudan Heavy Fighter (pics)
I also agree, a Ulysses-style cockpit would look good with the model.

I should also mention, there is an offset cockpit used by the Vasudans, and it's the Horus. Why they did that is anyone's guess.

Re: My first real Model (WIP) - Vasudan Heavy Fighter (pics)
Hmmn, I don't think it's going to work with the hull details. The Ulysses style I mean. I'd probably have to rework the recessed portions behind the cockpit to do it. . . .But I will make it rounder. With any luck I can finish the model by tomorrow. But somehow I doubt it'll be quite finished.

Thanks again for everyone's comments. I think everyone's in agreement that the cockpit isn't working (myself included)

Maybe it's a modified atmospheric fighter...

Re: My first real Model (WIP) - Vasudan Heavy Fighter (pics)
The Sea Vixen featured an offset cockpit.  This was done as the navigator was wholly enclosed within the fuselage itself.
If a man consults whether he is to fight, when he has the power in his own hands, it is certain that his opinion is against fighting.

reminds me of the serapis.  But it still looks nice.  Might use this if finished in time (assuming i would have your permission).

Yeah that'd be cool if I ever finish it. I finished everything except the cockpit, but was busy the last few days securing a job. So I might finish the model up tomorrow or something if I can get motivated enough. Then I'll have to learn UV mapping and stuff like that.

I still wonder about the proportions though, maybe it's more of a bomber or something . .. .
