To health, and above all with my selfishness, to MY health...or some others. But, this really is about my health. I drink only water, OJ, and cranberry juice. I love my veggies as long as their cooked, i eat from most of the food groups as i can possible every day. I exercise, and i get good sleep (good in my definition for the french/swedish hybrid night owls). I do all of this stuff because it's awesome to do and isn't really hard to do either.

It's all hunky dory for me except the fact that i smoke. What gives? This is so ****ing retarded of me
I wake up in the morning and "i like my smokes". What the hell gives with my other good habits and not being able to eliminate this one?
Simple fact, i'm addicted. Other fact, mentally i don't see myself smoking as that really doesn't fit with me, and other people think the same. Deduction is that i should quit.
I got myself out of the i don't want to quit motto, but am currently sitting in between the i don't want to quit and the i do want to quit. Which gives for an over all feeling of smoking is currently medium good. If my mood switches back to the i don't want to quit stage...then that'll suck. If my mood sticks more toward the i don't want to smoke mood then...it's primetime for me take advantage of whatever mood induced commitment i will have to help (my smoking's retarded) to go along with what i learn to actually do about quitting.

How should i go about quitting because i really don't know how and would not only find fascinating but also helpful with intel from other people because that's smart. I'd also really appreciate it.

any quitting is sheer will power.  Go cold turkey, any other method is just dishonest.

You have to want to quit. If you don;t want to, you never will. You need a motivator, and it needs to be a powerful one. Avoiding death isn't powerful enough for of people.

I smoked 2 packs a day. I live in New England. and about 10 years ago or so, all my employees and coworkers quit as a New Years resolution. My then girlfriend, now wife really wanted me to quit. So, since I  had nobody to smoke with in the sub-zero bitter January winter, I said "**** it" and didn't buy smokes one weekend.

Two weeks later, all those assholes were smoking again, at which point I was so pissed off that I continued not to smoke.

I occasionally smoke a cigar (maybe one a year) and I haven't even hit a regular cig in probably 6 or 7 years (and boy was that a mistake). My motivation was pure force of will and anger with my "friends" but it stuck. I can be a stubborn SOB. You have to want it, for whatever reason, if you want it, you'll be able to. You may need a crutch like the patch, but you may be addicted to more than just the nicotine. I was addicted to the "lifestyle" the mannerisms, the gadgets (I had a bunch of cool lighters, etc) AND the nicotine.

You also need to be prepared for those cravings to be with you for years to come...

Don't bother with quitting aids, the research on them is mostly sham, they only studied the quit-rate 6 weeks after quitting to get their figures, a later study which checked up on the same people revealed that patches etc have no discernible impact on success rate.

Yeah, i'm not much up for quitting aids. The most those things are going to do for me is make me want a smoke. The one thing i hate about local tv in alaska is the anti-smoking public anouncements. Those just make me want to smoke too. Cold turkey is the way to go. I've done that once successfully last last christmas. Until i tested myself 3 weeks later. Not a smart decision, here i am back today.

When it's cold and you fancy a smoke, just do a press up. Every time you get a craving, add a press up to that number. You'll either end up built or sick depending on strength of will.

If you want a good self-help book for stopping smoking (or kicking other addictions) that is based on solid science with evidence backing up the effectiveness of its approach, I'd recommend "Willpower's Not Enough" by Washton and Boundy. You can pick up a copy on Amazon for $7-$12.

AAAh. good news. Spring is rolling around and **** up here is finally starting to melt. I can go out running here in the next two weeks and bike riding. The qutting future.
