Aye. Canon is canon, but it is not wrong for people to vision their own stories, continuing on the events of the Capella incident. It is a driving force behind the whole FS scene we have now. With no "actual" conclusion to the story, people are encouraged to present their own theories in the form of mods/campaigns. If we were presented with an actual FS3... it just wouldn't work anymore.

I don't see how it would destrroy the FS modding scene. The modding scene existed before FS2 (starting from FS1) and would if anything explode after a hypothetical FS3 because of a newbie influx. People dedicated to their sequel projects for FS2 would ignore the canon continuity and continue on, acknowledging that their campaign violates FS3 canon.

How many people are going to be interested in building or playing a campaign which isn't valid in canon?  A massive part of the interest in Post Capella campaigns is getting a perspective on what 'happened' after Capella, what impact events had, what happened with all the loose ends.  Interest would inevitably dwindle when people know what happened.

I personally believe that the Great FS series storyline cannot, much less, Will not be concluded in FS3. I think they will solve some, but open or continue others. The HLP campaigns will continue to live, plus we will have more things to write about. Plenty people will play the campaigns that are non cannical because of their quality.

But i would love a FS3, and i think as they are trying to MAKE money, they wont **** up the storyline.

So keep sending emails about FS3 and lets go get it.

That everyone moves on to FS3 and make their mods for that one. And those who do not have any reason to upgrade their computers stick to FS2...

There's only one Descent series and it is the Descent series. In FreeSpace, the prefix Descent was only used to avoid legal issues.

But taking all the typos into account, you have to admit that Freespace is pretty Decent in it's own right. Especially all the cannon champagnes, though Silent Throat is a bit lame and Dereklict is in my opinion much better than that...
