You know, I tried to start watching the new series, but every time I see the new show, the mental note that "this is a retcon series..." just really turns me off and I'll not suffer to watch it. I'll watch the original two seasons of FMA any day, but I just can't seem to appreciate this one.

Which brings me to the question... What's the point of the new show anyway? Why cover the older story again, which from what I've seen of the new one, was better anyway?

It's not a retcon.  The first FMA didn't follow the manga after the first couple seasons, and this one does.  Consider them completely independent of one another.  The point of the new show is to actually follow the manga, and it does a superb job of that.  I immensely prefer Brotherhood, both for the better animation quality and the story.

Well, there were only two seasons, so I have no idea where the major changes would be. I think I'll force myself to sit down and watch it at some point, but, eh... I don't know.

You're correct, my mistake.  After the first season then.  Point is, the first anime diverged from the manga at some point.  This one does not.

Minor change:  Homunculi have different names.  King Bradley is Wrath.  The Wrath you know doesn't exist, nor does the Sloth you knew.  Greed is probably different at the beginning, and there's no way in hell he's the same greed you would know toward the end..  Envy, Lust, and Gluttony are the same.

I enjoy it a whole lot more than the first anime, but to each their own.

Yeah I wasn't really sold until last night. I had heard a lot of people say Brotherhood is good, so I kept watching it and maaaan, it finally paid off. I'm like ten eps in or so and it's already covered past the halfway point of the first series. I suspect there's going to be a LOT going on in Brotherhood. So yeah, Thaeris, give it a shot. I ****ing loved the first series and I'm loving this too.

My parents are leaving for Greece on holiday this morning (The islands, not the mainland), not sure if I'm 100% happy with the situation over there at the moment, certainly, parts of Greece are a bit like a powder keg at the moment, and what with this mornings revelations about one of the Tourism ministers, who had been fiddling her taxes for years, things aren't going to calm down over the austerity measures for a while.

Apparently, it's not so bad on the islands, but I just hope nothing kicks off while they are out there.
