True that. I've never driven before (just my mum's Commodore and that wasn't for so long...or so legal) so I have no idea really what to expect. Can't be that hard if everyone does it!

Started going to driver's school 2 weeks ago. Going for auto license atm, cause I don't really see the point of getting taught how to drive manual. So now I can basically get my license as soon as possible and without much hassle.

Not where I'm from, either. They license differently for different sizes of vehicles but all individual/family cars are under the same license--no matter manual or automatic transmissions. Ultimately, it's up to you to either learn manual or burn clutches.

manuals are nice to drive once you get them down right, but risky.  traffic jams are HELL in them.  especially if you're on any kind of hill.  i would never survive in one through the morning traffic at the tunnels.  i still wish i was better at them though.  i can get to where i'm going in one, but it's going to be a bumpy ride.

Once you've driven stick enough it basically becomes second nature, you don't consciously think about clutch and gear anymore it just naturally happens.  At that point traffic and hills really don't become much of an issue.  Compared to the degree of control I can attain in a manual transmission, I find automatic just sloppy and awkward.

in 2 mile backups every morning, it's not a question of ease, it's leg fatigue.  stroking the clutch every 5 seconds for a half hour starts to wear on you.  and the only two manuals i've ever driven had absurdly long footpresses.

Once you've driven stick enough it basically becomes second nature, you don't consciously think about clutch and gear anymore it just naturally happens.  At that point traffic and hills really don't become much of an issue.  Compared to the degree of control I can attain in a manual transmission, I find automatic just sloppy and awkward.

Both of these quoted for truth. I prefer driving manual, but that might be cause I don't usually drive during peak hour. In the end, it comes down to personal preference and everyday driving conditions.

I'm going for a manual license, originally because I don't wish to be restricted to automatics (which could be awkward if I ever need to drive someone's car and it's a manual). Over here you can either have an automatic license (allows automatic only) or a manual license (allows both manual and automatic). Although my plan was to get an automatic car once I got my provisional license, I'm considering sticking to manual completely (since then I can get my own car while I'm on my learners to use).
