Went to the mall today with my mom.  When we came out, there was a small envelope on our car with a bow and ribbon that said "A random act of kindness in memory of Sandy Hook Elementary student <name i don't recall>".  I opened expecting to see a christmas card or a photo and tribute or something, but instead found a small amount of cash.  I wish i had known that beforehand and I would have transferred it to another car.  Instead it was added to the tip when we went out to eat later.

Put in my two weeks notice for my job today
Chef was disappointed, but that's only because I'm the only useful dishwasher that works there. If I wasn't, it'd more or less be "Okay, shame as you've been working here over a year, but at least we've got backup"

Well go check out the RottenTomatoes page. Also, it was in production well before bin Laden was killed, when it was going to be about Tora Bora. His death forced some serious reshuffling but apparently didn't hurt the film.

Movie was good. Family was fairly well behaved, but somehow had forgotten almost everything about the movie, despite having seen it as many times as I have. Cat sat on an ottoman nearby, but was probably more interested in being near the fireplace than watching the movie.

Have had an awesome week. Got a brand new job (pay bump, title bump, responsibility bump, and a massive interesting-ness bump), and just spent the last few days on rottnest with the new GF (Rotto, for non West Aussies, is like... well, a non-resort holiday island - all very low budget and casual, but with the kind of beaches that make other parts of the world super jealous - google image search it) where I caught only the second fish of my entire life. Next few days is Chrissy, Boxing day and New Years. Liking life at the moment.

My stupid Windows thinks it's pirated again

i think my laptop obtained before uni in 2006 is finally about to give up the ghost.  freezes during or shortly after boot about 19 times out of 20.  i thought at first it was the craptastic seagate hybrid drive i put in it, but then it started doing the same thing on my old drive with a fresh install.  something in the hardware must be borked.

why couldn't it have crapped out a while ago before windows 8 took over?  and what the hell happened to laptop screens?  apparently the new standard res is _x768, unless you get an expensive desktop replacement type system with a 17" 1080p.  seriously?  this one is 1400x1050 on a 15''.  again, made in 2006.
