Pretty sure Mongoose knows what he's doing and knows The Onion is a satire site. He further knows that anyone here with even a modicum of internet savvy will be able to pull up a dozen real news articles on the subject with ease. He obviously posted the Onion article because it reflected his feelings of shock, exasperation, and... defeat I guess, but not because he thought it was an objective factual account of the events. I mean seriously.

EDIT: The title of the god damned article is literally "**** Everything." I mean do you really think that anyone here is going to mistake that for a real news article and be misinformed. That's just downright insulting to like, the entire board.

Yeah, man, except literally on the last page.  And that aside, it's generally a bad idea to Darfur Clause someone else's tragedy. Something worse generally is happening, for any given event in consideration, but regard for human suffering is not a zero-sum game, and we do not pour out our hearts in metered doses.

The only reason some people feel what is happening closer to them is far more important, is because it's closer to what they consider their safe haven. When their illusion of safety is fractured by something happening so close, it's going to affect them more than what is tragic and happening half way around the globe
