i do my best to keep my "important stuff" passwords and the "****ing everything requires a registered account" passwords in two separate groups, with the former generally being significantly more complex, and to the extent possible not sharing usernames either. however, password rules have forced me to mix on more than one occasion. Yeah yeah, "think up a new one," but my memory is bad. I can't have a lot of passwords. Especially with most everything limiting you to three attempts. I'm already permanently locked out of my ISP online account until I have the patience to sit through phone support hell.
And to be honest, I'm not convinced by that cartoon. What in the hell is a 'bit of entropy' and how on earth do they assign values to the various elements? Using purely words seems like it's leaving the door wide open for a dictionary attack to me. Shouldn't they be telling us to throw at least one number or symbol in there to break it from being just a string of words?
