Came across these old vids, still amusing years later: Bomberman Vs Tank, Contra Vs Tetris, Saw Vs Sherlock Holmes.

Gah, forgot the password to my KeePass database... all because the tip of my left index finger is smoother than usual, I can get perhaps the first 3 to 6 characters, but the remaining 3 are temporarily brain-farted.

z64, once you eventually remember your password, maybe change it while taking this into account?

(Although this is how I learned the hard way that the servers at my last employer apparently don't like 30-character passwords...)

I'm incredibly guilty of using those symbolic-replacement passwords all over the place, even though I know they're not nearly as secure as they seem to be.

Read that a long time ago. Needless to say all my current passwords follow the format of things like: Cake Fanta Great Falsehood; Gate Well Laser Dinosaur; Space Shark Killer Marine; etc.

i hate websites that enforce password complexity. like absolutely requiring a number or a symbol or a capitol letter somewhere. it essentially forces you to use a smaller cross section of possible password formats. though i can understand how the four word format would be susceptible to a dictionary attack (though it would take numberOfEntries^4 attempts to find out).

things like two factor kinda scare me though. kinda sets you up for a cascade failure in security, where a security breach in one thing leads to a security breech in several other things. a pilfered cell phone or a hacked social networking account can lead to something bad like your bank acount getting hacked and drained.

I can no longer sit back and allow communist infiltration, communist indoctrination, communist subversion, and the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

Re: W-H-I-Y-L It's over 1000!!!!! (pages)
i do my best to keep my "important stuff" passwords and the "****ing everything requires a registered account" passwords in two separate groups, with the former generally being significantly more complex, and to the extent possible not sharing usernames either.  however, password rules have forced me to mix on more than one occasion.  Yeah yeah, "think up a new one," but my memory is bad.  I can't have a lot of passwords.  Especially with most everything limiting you to three attempts.  I'm already permanently locked out of my ISP online account until I have the patience to sit through phone support hell.

And to be honest, I'm not convinced by that cartoon.  What in the hell is a 'bit of entropy' and how on earth do they assign values to the various elements?  Using purely words seems like it's leaving the door wide open for a dictionary attack to me.  Shouldn't they be telling us to throw at least one number or symbol in there to break it from being just a string of words?

I have three passwords
On websites that log me out for whatever reason, I generally end up fumbling around between the three in their two variations
I don't have important passwords because anything I do online I don't particularly care about.

It's a concept from information theory, which is a really cool branch of physics.

Wrapped up three hours of Iaido and Kendo, which is always good times.  Currently stopped in at work to do an after business hours deployment to prod.  Since I've got the office to myself I have this overpowered sound system attached to my PC cranked and dropping phat beats from Muse.

That's how you say it right? Phat Beats?

It was working pretty well until I forgot the master key to the database... I thought I had written it down to a slip of paper that I keep in my wallet, but when I looked it wasn't there. I believe it's better to just stick to a *simple* pattern that relates to the account that you're using.

passwords have gotten so hard to remember that we now have to write them down. i remember when that was a derp thing to do. of course back then computers had one core and ran at a few hundred mhz, and brute forcing a password really sucked.
