I suppose that makes sense
Although I don't see the smaller ones anymore these days. Hell, I hardly see anything that
isn't Star Wars lego
Different note: I direct you to the following news article
http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Survivor+recalls+discarded+mortar+killed+childhood+pals/8544705/story.htmlThis piece would generally be "Okay, so that happened" to which I figured was an addition to the ongoing articles about unspent ammunition near old training sites
Then I came across the following bits:
Fifty years later, the sole survivor of the blast says he is still waiting for his apology from the Department of National Defence.
But during the 1940s, the pasture had been used for war games and training exercises as part of Vernon Military Camp. Unbeknownst to Crane and his buddies, that history was scattered all over the field in the form of mortar shells that remained live decades later.
“He looks at it and says, ‘Oh, it looks like a bomb’,” Crane said in an interview Tuesday. “‘Let’s see if it’s live.’”
Hope banged the blunt end of the hatchet on the narrow tube attached to what turned out to be a foot-long mortar.

ARE YOU ****ING RETARDEDIt's no wonder the Department of National Defense hasn't given him an apology. His troupe was filled with dumbasses
HURR DURR LET'S BANG THIS MORTAR WHICH WE KNOW IS A MORTAR WITH A ****ING HATCHET
Seriously? SERIOUSLY?
First, the Boy Scouts dropped the ball by NOT INFORMING THE PEOPLE IN THIS ESCAPADE THAT THIS PLACE WAS USED AS A TRAINING GROUND FOR THE MILITARY.
When I was in Cadets and we did our "in the field" stuff, we were explicitly told "You see metal or something that looks like a bomb, IGNORE THE **** OUT OF IT AND LET ONE OF US KNOW. We'll then inform the actual Officers that this has been discovered, and they'll dispatch the Engineers to take care of it"
I do not feel bad for people who bang explosive objects with hatchets to "see if it's live"
