Yeah double post, but I couldn't help notice the Gy Ligeti music in this Godzilla trailer.

I wonder if they are going to do this terror route for the movie, could turn out interesting.

(What I really think is that the trailer director had a good instinct, while the movie probably won't).

They don't need to shoot terribly high to be better than the last one.  I am cautiously optimistic.

If they give it a slightly Attack on Titan feeling to it, it may actually be good!

Oh yes the neti pod.

Regardless of effectiveness they are pretty disgusting.

The text on the box made me laugh since it said that using a neti pod is an ELEGANT way to treat ones nasal problems.

I think it's quite far from elegant to be honest...
Habeeb it...

thats probibly just cpu throttling. 100mhz * 8 = 0.8ghz. you can disable it in the bios, but its kind of a power saving feature.

So I learned that having close interpersonal connections with people is precisely the opposite of helpful
Course having no close relationships is also not helpful
Nor is the inbetween where you have people you associate with but don't really do much with
Go go gadget life paradoxes

Also Luis, what do you find curious about it?

Oh just the fact that I never linked the historical Petrarch with the freespace Petrarch. I was fascinated reading all that.

Re: W-H-I-Y-L - Lorric/Retsof get Nuked!
Watched Wrath of Khan for the first time last night. I have to say that I'm not a trekkie (although I liked TNG) and this was my first encounter with TOS. And... it's ok. Everybody on the internet say that this is the best thing ever, but I'm not so sure.

But before that, let's talk about the good stuff. Firstly, I really liked the acting, Shatner and Montalbán are great, the rest are ok and everything works, you quickly know who is who and who likes who. Moreover, I drooled during the departure from the station sequence - the expository shots are great and really satisfy my "I need to see some sci-fi ship close-ups" needs. I also liked the more "we're in a submarine and we're partially blind" way of fighting.

However... Well, it aged a bit. When it comes to said fighting it's a bit clumsy and really dated, especially the encounter when they both basically disable each other. I know it's the '80s, I'm just looking at it from the current perspective. Also, I really hate myself for saying this, but I find something missing in the pacing. Again, it was filmed 30 years ago and things were done differently (I still whine when I watch Dirty Harry walking into a police station in a scene that takes something like 10 seconds and would now be probably cut to 2 seconds or not shown at all). Film-makers now have a tendency to cramp too much action into every minute, limiting the story, the acting opportunities etc. and I completely agree that this is a bad thing. However, you just feel that the pace could be a bit quicker. Another thing - although I love Shatner's I'm old-I fell young arc, I can't help but notice that there were some somewhat clumsy moments in the story, for example, when they are almost killed by the two officers and are saved, deus-ex machina style, because suddenly the mind controlled guys stop being mind controlled.

All in all... I still lack something in the style of Battlestar Galactica or Space Above and Beyond, a flick with reasonable acting and a believable or semi-believable setting, with some good starship action. Wrath of Khan is nice, I enjoyed it, but it just lack something. Maybe Star Trek in general lacks something for me, as I recently rewatched the first two seasons of TNG and almost always had this feeling of "I probably want something else" (although I know the first the seasons are generally viewed as terrible).

first startrek movie they did it was long and expensive and it sucked. in twok, they just tried to make a cheap scifi action movie, and it was way better.

also the people who write trek movies have a hardon for moby dick.

****, the first movie could've been reduced from two hours to forty five minutes. Why do I need to spin around the Enterprise for twenty five minutes? I know you're showcasing the oooo ahhh of movie magic, but god damn. Then you had the Nebula sequence where you're perusing the top of the overly long and massive ship for another thirty minutes

Re: W-H-I-Y-L - Lorric/Retsof get Nuked!
twok doesn't hold up much great nowadays I agree, but it is one of the greats imho because of its very different but coherent thematic narratives which seem sparse and detached but they all converge into one single metaphysical message, in all scales. It's something that seems impossible to do nowadays and don't get me started on nuStarTrek.

Microsoft might be releasing a free version of Windows 8.1 loaded with Bing apps/etc

http://gizmodo.com/rumor-microsoft-is-considering-a-free-version-of-windo-1533257778

I'll just go puke in the corner now.  One of my hatreds of 8.1 on my tablet is the default to Bing applications.  Bing maps is bloody awful.
