I just got back from almost two days in Wichita for the State Debate tournament.  We did well enough, considering it was state, with a 3-3 record.  Pretty good for my last debate tournament.

Now I just have two full days of classwork from the day of school I missed for it.

I just got back from an eye appointment. My eyes haven't changed, thus, I still meet the RAAF's pre-operative requirement for Laser Surgery for Aircrew.

What's your prescription, I thought it wrecked night vision and peripheral vision too. I got warned off it in the charing cross office back in 99. . .  If the rules have changed i'm going to look into saving my pennies up for a bit of pew pew pew fixing.

Oh, '99, no wonder. It's a relatively recent thing. I'm not sure how it works over there with you guys, but since we copycat most of what you guys do, I doubt it's any different. They started allowing it over here around '04-ish, and they're always messing around with the damn rules since.

I'm -3.5, but wearing -3.75 at the moment because that was the only prescription they had close enough in fortnightly contacts. Ah, yes, from memory, your night vision does take a bit of a hit, but I don't know anything about Peripheral vision. Either way, I know of at least two pilots in the RAAF who got in with Laser Surgery. Pre-operative limit is -4 or -5 for aircrew, not sure about anything else. I'm not sure how it works up there, but you might even be able to get Gordy Brown to pay for it, if you're a member of the Defence Force (which I assume you are).

Upgraded the RAM without any hassles. As it turns out, the RAM slots on a motherboard installed in a Compaq SR1510AP are a lot easier to access than one installed in a Lenovo ThinkCentre 8294-KAB. Unfortunately, the motherboard in my Compaq is a cheap MSi that only has two 1 GB slots. Compare that to the motherboard on my IBM, which has four RAM slots, each capable of holding 2 GB RAM each (I don't need 8 GB RAM, though, and besides, Windows XP Home Edition cannot read more than 3.5 GB RAM).

I usually plan for 1-2GB RAM/core. Actually, my desktop's got a total of 6GB in it.

I've decided that multi-core processors are not all they're cracked up to be.

Particularly when a CPU-intensive game doesn't see the second processor core! Meaning I've got one core almost idling while the game loses up to 20 FPS in parts and along with it any kind of challenge. Those tend to be the hardest parts too, which means I'm effectively playing with a handicap during the game's hardest segments! I mean, what's the point of trying to beat the game in that case?

And yeah, it's the CPU, not the RAM. The RAM's barely at 50% when I'm playing, while one CPU core is maxed out.

This is a supreme annoyance. Time to upgrade the processor then... but they're expensive...

Are you playing an older game? IIRC, older games don't support <duo-core processors.
