Trying to write a ghazal. I'm at least getting the form right, but it's making my poem crappy. Argh.

What I have so far:

I finished!

I am harboring some mighty frustration with you
Over how I can't have a conversation with you

Your cold blue eyes and upturned nose don't appear to
Have any effect on my fixation with you.

It isn't fair the way you ignore my attempts
At forming some affable relation with you.

Let's not have any misunderstandings on this:
The goal was friendly association with you.

I never had any desire to start conflict
Or engage in futile confrontation with you.

You are insidious from whisker to claw and tail
And I conclude there's no mediation with you.

i got my spitfire today, started putting it together to get it ready to fly. turns out it came with a motor, so the brushless motor i bought is not neccisary, unfortunately the motor it comes with is a brush motor anbd the esd i recieved is for the brushless motor, so i have no way to control throttle. maybe do it with a potentiometer and a small servo (i bought extra). the battery i bought turns out to be way too big to fit into the airframe. turns out im gonna need to buy a lot more stuff before i can fly. grrr.

I went back to playing SimCity 4 and decided to make a new region based on a tutorial I found here. Now I'm just waiting for my IBM to hopefully finish processing the region map.

While waiting, I did a quick Google search and came across this.

A competition for 7th & 8th grade students to foster interest in engineering, math, and science through hands-on, real world applications.

This year the Competition will be using SimCity 4.

The SimCity file and the Computer Evaluation Sheet must both be RECEIVED by the "end of business day" on MONDAY, JANUARY 11, 2010. This is the absolute last day to submit. No late submittals will be accepted.

Future City teams will be required to send a burned CD (* or thumbdrive) containing the city's region folder. Teams are encouraged to change their region's folder name to match their city name.

i got my spitfire together after all. figured out how to get the motor off of the plane without breaking it and installed my brushless motor instead, so i can use the esc that i have. as for the battery not fitting, nothing a box cutter couldnt deal with. had to cut through some structural foam to get the cell in there, but once installed theres little room left for anything. now the battery is 11.1 volt and im not sure what voltage the receiver takes, its not labeled anywhere. not sure if i should just wire it to the battery and hope it dont melt, or to use some kind of power circuit to drop it to a more sane number, like 6v, though it works fine on a 9v battery. im not sure if i should push it. also i added a camera to the cockpit which takes 9v. i actually had to modify the canopy because the plastic was too blurry, so i cut ther front off with a dremel and used some clear plastic sheets and a lot of glue to make a more translucent part of the windshiield for the camera to point out of. it aint pretty (and definately not aerodynamic) but iy will work. i was testing all the control surfaces but all my batteries decided to stop working all at the same time. so i put the plane down and signed up for the starcraft 2 beta and now im going to sleep.

You don't.  You braze it.  Er... well, I am assuming by tungsten you mean tungsten carbide as I've never heard of anyone attempting to deal with pure tungsten before.  Tungsten carbide is not something you can weld, but you can generally bond it to a substrate through brazing.

If you really are trying to bond pure tungsten, I still don't think you could actually weld it.  The melting point for elemental tungsten is 6192°F (3422°C).  Tungsten is used in some welding equipment because of this, most notable tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding.  I think you'll still have to use brazing.

nope, pure tungsten (or a 25% rhenium alloy).  what we are doing with it is making a spherical grid with 3 concentric loops of wire.  it is going to be used in a small D-D fusion based neutron generator.  the insane melting point is why we need it, because we are going to be throwing 20,000 volts across this thing, and a rough calculation puts the steady-state temp at ~3000 F.

anywho, that was kinda a rhetorical just to be a smartass/vent anyway, as we've mostly got it figured out.  it requires a spot welder, blow a large(ish) current through the contact point, it heats it to the melting point, and there you go.  which makes us one of 3 groups in the country who know how to do this, and one of 2 that actually have the capablility.    the problem we are combating now is embrittlement.
