VLC is pretty much garbage at whatever you assign it to do.  The CCCP with its included version of MPC or ZoomPlayer is probably the best thing at handling .mkvs that I've come across.  I use KMPlayer for just about all of my video needs myself, unless there's something that requires CCCP's finesse.

You guys have it all wrong. Get Media Player Classic. It's a single, lightweight .exe and plays absolutely everything.

no it isnt. it just uses codecs that are installed on the PC

VLC was supposed to be a player for everything without the need installing codecs. i get a bit more reliable playback via VLC than via MPC.

3) Acer Aspire One (3 colors, 120GB HDD, 2.19lb, 5.5 hour battery)
4) MSI Wind (2 colors, 160GB HDD, 2.3lb, 7? hour battery)
5) Asus Eee PC 1000 40G (2 colors, 8+32GB SSDs, 2.94lb, 7.5 hour battery)

If this gets running well, I can get my name out there as knowing about computers &c, and hopefully do custom builds. I'm targeting the faculty and students, and there's plenty of financially loaded students. I already have some people willing to buy, and I'm generating more interest by advertising. How do I advertise? I sit in public with MY laptop and when people ask, tell them I'll be selling these in a few weeks.

  Ugh. 

Look, my headphones broke, and now my USB drive is broken, too  ! The USB connector came off! What annoys me is that the information is probably still there. Luckily, there wasn't too much important stuff if (I hope) I recall correctly. Still there was stuff on it that I didn't have anywhere else! 

And it snapped off while I was trying to get it to work so I could get the stuff off it. I knew it was stuffed already, but I had to try and get the stuff off it. And I failed. But it was partly my fault, it only worked in certain positions, so I was bending it about in the USB sockets. My frakking bad!

I met my friend and we went home together. I told her about my two dreams, and she wrote the one involving her as ridiculous, which I agree.

We may be able to meet up tomorrow morning and take a shuttle bus to Ngee Ann Polytechnic. I hope we do.
