I knew I was getting old when I started University and realised that I wrote my first line of Z80 Machine Code before anyone else in the class had been born :(

yeah i felt a little better when i had a 28 year old in the intro to fortran class i taught, and when i met with one of my physics professors who did post-doc with IBM working on vacuum-tube machines :D.  last time i went to this guy's office, he was "upgrading" a PC he said he'd bought in '86.  the tower was the biggest damn thing i've ever seen in my life.  whatever the graphics interface was, it was pre-pci. was fully loaded with 128 KB of memory, no hard drive, a 5-inch floppy (i think, whatever those ones that were actually floppy were), and a processor that was probably clocked in kilohertz.

if the mobo was vintage it will have used only ISA (Industry Standard Architecture) addin slots

I remember my old CGA graphics card lol, the machine was a little newer than I think you are describing. an IBM 80286 I think it started out life with a half or a full meg of memory (dad had upgraded that at least once) a 30 meg hard drive, 1 5'1/4 inch floppy as well as a 3 1/2 high density I think when I got it from dad when he had finished with it the OS was DOS 5, and pc speaker only for audio.  when I finished with that case it was 386, VGA or SVGA, SB Pro and a CD-ROM drive

the thing i remember the most about it apart from the shear mass of the case (probably had a 2x2 foot footprint in a desktop form) was the massive flip switch on the side of the PSU near the back.

this is the closest I can find to that iron clad beast but the monitor is older (i think but then dad could have replaced it) and the spec listed it as having EGA not the older standard CGA I had

Re: W-H-I-Y-L I pity the fools that diss it.
The first computer I owned was a ZX81, bought in '82, I even bought the 16K Ram-pack, bringing the computer up to a colossal 17K of memory a couple of year later, but the pack was too big for the keyboard, and lifted it off the desk slightly, causing the whole thing to crash if you pressed a key too hard...

Hungover?
I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. On a side-note, I need to restock my booze. I have watered-down rum and a little brandy left...

And I've just been propositioned for sex.
