I am having difficulty finding my Office 2003 installer. I'm pretty sure I have it on a CD somewhere but it's still a PITA.

Battlestar > Superbowl

battlestar is less impressive now that i finally got around to watching firefly

I'd like to get off the firefly bandwagon and say I have no idea why everyone loved it so much. It was competently done, sure. But I really don't see a reason to gush, and a good number not to.

I think most people liked about it was the setting. Nobody ever bothered putting 'development planets' in their Sci-Fi fic...

its a space western. whats not to like?

battlestar was good, but its kinda getting old now. after watching the entire show seven times, everything just kinda gets cheesy. and since there's not a single tv scifi franchise left, im going to spend some time watching some old shows i never got around to finishing up.

It's a space western, everything. The whole trappings of low-tech-low-power society make very little sense juxtaposed with the ship, which would require a higher tech base than is seen almost anywhere groundside in the show to simply pay for the use of, much less actually maintain or build. The whole image of a down-on-their-luck spaceship crew is forgetting that they're still spaceship crew and they have to pay for spaceship gas, and this ain't going to cut it.

it actually seems more realistic. the cost of space travel is somewhat astronomical and on a somewhat recently colonized planet with little or no infrastructure to speak of would be hard pressed to be able to afford it. they certainly wouldn't be very capable of building and launching spacecraft regardless of the influx of technology from the more technologically advanced core planets. its somewhat analogous to the third world today. i mean we have our electricity and communications and transportation infrastructure, and its accessible to almost all levels of society. then you go to the third world and things like plumbing or power are considered luxuries and are completely inaccessible to most of the population. things dont necessarily revolve around what technology exists but rather the gdp of the planet. 3rd world planets trading in agricultural goods and raw materials wouldn't necessarily trade directly with the first world core planets, but would trade with planets kind of at an industrial level (sort of equivalent to china), and that goes up the hierarchy to the core planets. unrefined materials would be somewhat useless to a developed planet, who would probably trade with the closer industrial planet.

Re: W-H-I-Y-L I pity the fools that diss it.
You missed the point, which was basically "how are these people paying for gas with these jobs" and "where the hell would they get gas, anyways" :P

But on another front, I think you're looking in the wrong direction with the whole 3rd-world analogy. This is colonization, not exploitation; you end up with something like the Brits in America or Australia, not the wild west.

That would come later in the expansion, if it came at all. And spaceships would have no reason to visit it. They would visit the initial colonies, where material was shipped out, rather than visit the proles, who would only get uppity if they had direct contact with the outside universe.

The best thing about Firefly was the writing and characters and if that's not why you like it (or dislike it) well then we disagree and should argue about

I watched Spidey's FS2_Open trailer again. The more I watch it, the more I feel that kamikaze attacks are clichéd. It's a nice nod to Derelict, though, if it was intended to be one.

how many times do i need to say it? do not talk about me. do not think about me. most of all, do not address me. just seeing your name is enough to darken my mood significantly.

Before you yell at me ttuta, I tried to PM this but he's blocking PMs from me or whatever.

Maybe getting laid tomorrow, if the circus permits.

It was fun, and when it wanted to, serious enough.
Battlestar felt way too much like it was taking itself way too seriously, at least to me.
