I had a professor like that at UTK. He literally taught for the test, going over each question, step-by-step a week before the exam, with the expectation that you would reproduce those steps from memory, instead of trying to work the problem on exam day. If you didn't reproduce every line, exactly as he had done it, even if you arrived at the same answer, using similar/the same method, then you were wrong. He'd even dock points for not using the same notation. I was only lucky that at the end of that particular semester he decided that because I clearly understood the content (as I had covered most of it in high school), even through I wasn't memorizing and regurgitating his solutions on the exams, he was going to raise my grade from an 'F' to a 'C'.

In hindsight, it might have been better to fail the course and retake it with a better professor, but at the time (and it wasn't that long ago), UT reserved its best professors in the Math Department for the upper-level courses. If you were pursuing those upper-level courses, though, it was like trying to build a house on a foundation of sand. You have very little hope of understanding anything in a Partial Differential Equations (435) course, if your ODE (231), Matrix Algebra (251), and Calculus II (142)/III (241) courses were all ****.

Incidentally, I think that running the Math Department that way is a big contributing factor to why the Physics Department maintains such a lousy retention rate.

Wow, that sucks.

How did he even become a prof? Eh, I can at least take solace in the fact there'll be a next time.

My spirits were lifted a rather lot however after we won soccer this evening and followed it up with some KFC, drive-by trolling of the adjacent suburbs and intense CODsesh, which I absolutely dominated.

Medical went well. Knee's stiff now. Loss of sensation in small toe. Not much there for years anyway so no biggy. Need to jog less, run more. Gotta build it up. Starting next week. Looking forward tomatching Black wolf shot for shot for a little while then telling offensive jokes.til I pass out.

Haven't played any Civs yet and a friend recommended to get 4 rather than 5. And I completely trust his judgement in the matter.

Plus, 4 is cheaper than 5 at the moment. I am on a budget here.

In all fairness, if you're looking for a super-deep, turn-based strategy game, there's absolutely nothing wrong with CivIV. The stated reason for CivV being a complete overhaul has never been that CivIV was fundamentally broken, but that CivIV had taken the old Civ formula as far as it could be taken.
