Just got back from 'schoolies/leavers week' over here in Perth. Traditional booze/****fest post-final exams had by the entire country for approximately 3-7 days that I didn't really find a whole lot of fun because a) I felt like ****, and this was exacerbated by b) there was no booze in the place I was staying at to make myself feel better.

On top of this I found out my good mate I've had since fourth grade has depression, and has had it for a while. 'Mate, I'm...uh, a little mentally ill.' And he henceforth told me about how he'd taken the last week of proper school off for it and that he'd like me to keep an eye on him on our night out because he didn't know how alcohol would interact with his meds. I felt extremely ****ing stupid and like a terrible friend for knowing him for so long and never having pegged it, especially with a sister suffering from it myself. Everyone's different.

And my girlfriend is a year younger and wasn't down at schoolies, so I didn't even have a good cuddle and kiss to go back to at night with a listening ear. **** leavers.

Definitely not as prestigious as Oxford, but I just applied to eight different universities here in the States (in the order that I hope to get accepted): Virginia Polytechnic (VA Tech), Savanna College of Art & Design, University of South Carolina, Vanderbilt University, North Carolina State University, Georgia Institute of Technology (GA Tech), University of North Carolina, and Clemson University.

Damn, that was a lot of work for one night.

Ouch. Ah, parental inconsistency (or forgetfulness). Congrats on getting them in. I'd imagine that most (all?) of the schools you applied to use the Common Application, which would at least make things less painful. Is a December 1st deadline typical, though? I remember them being early-mid January.

Deadlines are different for nearly every school. They range from December up to even June.

i cleaned my room, to get rid of all that iron dust and tiny steel wires from the wire brush bit that suck when you step on them. this comes after finishing a second conversion on a gimbal set for the joystick of doom. i ditched some unfinished projects, my diy avr programmer and some circuit boards went into the salvage bin, a bunch of loose electronic parts got sorted and binned, and i put all the loose screws in their appropriate jars. i also sorted and bundled a box of cables that were too thick a tangled mess. i also fixed my guitar cable, thank satan for heat shrink!

Wasn't all that hard as everyone made it out to be. Saved chapter 6 (waste) chapter 9 (good call, nearly died right after) and 13 (again, good call, nearly died right after). Never died once, and took me a single day

i found wires thin enough to let me cram 16 of them through the tube in the gimbal of the joystick of doom. this will allow me to wire the buttons in the grip to my 6x6 matrix board (built out of crappy old radioshack strip board and scrap parts, and a signal diode for each of the 36 button ports, but it works well). i kinda wanted to use the existing 2x4 matrix board that is in the handle, which i just figured out how works, but it uses transistors and my board uses diodes, and im not sure how to make them play nice with each other (it would entail bypassing parts of the board). i could also decode it with a microcontroller, i have an attiny 2313 which would be cool for that kinda thing, all io and no analog, but it seems like unnecessary complexity. of course im going to do it the brute force way, by stuffing 16 tiny wires down the tube. il cut the traces on the matrix board in the joystick grip so i can tap into the buttons directly, then use my matrix board. its late, so this is a project for tomorrow.

I broke my good headphones about a month ago. Which sucked. Decided at the time I couldn't afford to replace them with the same ones (sat around 80 bucks list price), so I bought a cheap set for now to get buy in hopes that I'd be able to replace them eventually.

Looked today while bored in class, guess what? Those headphones? They're on sale. For 40$ CDN. Which would have been in my price range had I not just bought the cheap temporary set. And now I don't have the spare cash.
