I have a feeling my drafting class' closed/private/local_area network is infected with viruses, despite the fact that it is not connected to the internet.
Because you need the internet in order to be infected by viruses
To elaborate, someone could have created a malicious thing and put it there manually, or taken an already existing one connected to say, a file, and put it there
Yeah but... why would anybody want to?
old skool virus spreadding.
virus infects a file, eg course work
n00b innocently puts infected file onto a floppy disk, cd, dvd, flash drive, portable hard drive, mp3 player, etc
n00b connects said media to networked computer and opens/runs file
virus activates infecting the computer.
virus starts infecting files on the new computer
n00b uses an infected files down the network
that computer becomes infected
repeat until network dies or computer tech gets off his lazy arse and fixes the problem after several hours of swearing and an unhealthy ammout of tea/coffee/cola/stimulant drink
