Southern Comfort (Okay, this one I had fun with)
Short form description, it's a Peach flavoured Whiskey type drink. Initially, I was thinking less of a liqueur, more a whiskey drink when I first heard of it. Turns out, this liqueur goes with pretty much anything you have to put it in. Glass with ice? You're good to go. Ginger Ale? Not bad. Tea? Quite good. Rootbeer? Drinking that right now. Milk? Why the hell not. Ice cream? Orgasm
When it first hits your tongue, your mouth is enveloped in a sweet peach flavour with a hint of anything else. The alcohol (35%) is hardly detectable which is a very dangerous quality. I found myself pouring away into a glass without really measuring, taking a healthy (well, define healthy) gulp, and not tasting much other than flavour. Basically, Southern Comfort is an aftertaste flavour. It doesn't take over the mixed drink allowing for a blend of the two flavours instead of it drastically changing the outcome. In Ginger Ale, you'll first encounter the ginger taste, followed by a blend of the two, and the aftertaste of the drink itself.
Now what about other liqueurs or alcoholic beverages? Grand Marnier (orange cognac) and SoCo compliment eachother well due to them both being a fruit flavour. Best way to have this is to add it to more fruity drinks or teas (I personally used Strawberry Paraiso Tea, not bad at all). Afterall, you can't go wrong adding fruits to fruits. Unless you look at Congress
With Scotch (Red Label, all I had), it didn't work out as well as it could have just by themselves. Mixed on the other hand, it worked a lot better (scotch first to take over your tastebuds, followed by the gingerale, and then SoCo). This begs the question as to why you'd even bother though, followed by a few raised eyebrows
On a personal level, my favourite thing to do with this was to add it to vanilla ice cream along with sliced strawberries. Just don't let the alcohol sit too long in your bowl... it has a tendency to melt the ice cream quite quickly
Also, don't tell people about this combination. They call you an alcoholic
